    D&D 4E How would you re-envision Spelljammer with 4e?

I'm on the "remove unnecessary silly" wagon. Some can be left of course, it's part of the SJ flavour, so OK to Giff, for example. But don't overdo it. Pirates of the Caribbean in space is OK. No more than that. The setting them must REALLY be made a standalone and consistent (as much as a...

D&D 4E 4e Races and Classes: "Why we changed the gods"

Well, here we're talking about a pantheon of deities that appear in a book called PLAYER'S HANDBOOK, so it doesn't sound so illogical that it't focused on choices for PLAYER CHARACTERS... Just like the vast majority of people in the fantasy world are NOT Fighters, Wizards, Rangers or Paladins...

Effects lasting until the end of the encounter, w00t!

I'm not sure that "duration = encounter" actually means "you have one casting EACH encounter".

Effects lasting until the end of the encounter, w00t!

You raise a good point, actually I count myself among the lucky, but I admit I helped my own luck by: - making sure we used to play at MY place. Never good to piss the owner of the ball. - making sure that the action the player wanted resulted in a gory death, sooner or later. ;)

Effects lasting until the end of the encounter, w00t!

One thing that it seems to me that may people are missing is that the DM is in charge of "what is an encounter" from the buildup! I mean, if he's designing his adventure, well, he perfectly knows from the start what is an encounter, how many guards are there behind the much-quoted door, how...

    Mike Mearls comments on design

I think there's a formatting error. In the following two paragraphs: The first should be from the original poster, and only the second Mearls' answer.

    More about wizards by kunadam

I just noticed this! I did something like this, once! Basically, schools were all associated with one alignment (except True Neutral) and one "patron deity". Starting from LG and going along the "Great Wheel" the schools were: Abjuration (LG), Divination (NG), Transmutation (CG), Illusion (CN)...

    More about wizards by kunadam

Which not susplrisingly match the four suits of European playing cards: staff, sword, cup and coins (the four suits' origins are deeply rooted in esoteric traditions)... Now, THAT makes some interesting fluff for me, and something that could actually be of good use in my campaign instead of the...

    More about wizards by kunadam

Well, never tried to set a SPEAR against a CHARGE? In various forms the mechanic has been around through more than one edition. In real world, "fighters" have been choosing their weapons in regards to the opponent they were going to face and/or the situation. Pikes were used to bring down and...

    I begin to worry...

Expecially since it's actually hard to READ anime. Usually you read manga.

"Per Encounter"-Ability: Hopefully not in the rules

I surely expect the manuals to give clear indications of what is an encounter and what is not. But, actually, your DM has ALWAYS determined when an encounter began and when it ended. The first happens when he says "ok guys, roll for initiative". The second when he says "ok guys, prepare to...

"Per Encounter"-Ability: Hopefully not in the rules

I admit at first, when I first read about per encounter abilities, I was more on the "no way!" side of things. But afrer a lot of considerations, I came to the conclusion that I REALLY love the concept! Because the concept is NARRATIVE. And D&D is a STORYTELLING game, after all. So, I like...

    Monster Subtypes

You don't need a label to tell you EVERYTHING about EVERY creature!! The rule for Death effects could just go: "If it's not Undead, Construct, Whatchamacallit, then it's a living creature and can be targeted by this kind of effects", like it'a always been.

    Monster Subtypes

I think we'll see a 2metabolism" entry only of it's strictly necessary, i.e. an elf will be prolly just a Medium Humanoid (Fey) or something like that, while a golem will be a Large Construct Humanoid. I see no reason to complicate things more than necessary.

gods in the PHB and custom clerics/special powers based on them?

I really, really, REALLY there's more specialization room for Clerics from the get-go in 4e than there is in 3e. All 1 level Clerics in 3e: - could wear heavy armor - could not use martial weapons - could (must?) heal - could turn undead And they had to take a PrC 5 or more level later in...

    Find the Anime Challenge

Well, actually, I don't think ignorant is an offence. We are ALL born ignorant, Me, you, everybody else. And we learn along the way. To be ignorant simply means that "you don't know". Everybody has his or her field of knowledge. Someone can be the greatest mathematician of the world, and...

    Find the Anime Challenge

Well, from 1983 (Fushigi No Kuni No Alice - The Wonderful World Of Alice), all pictures seem obviously anime. 1951 is Disney, everybody knows that. 1966 Western All earlier, well, it's hard to define something "anime" when animation as we know it didn't exist yet. Frankly, it seems to me a...

    Find the Anime Challenge

Anime influence in D&D art? Well, crap, go back to the Spelljammer Monstrous Supplement in 2e. The "Bionoid" or "Bioman" "or whatever it was, is 100% ripped off "The Guyver", name, art and race concept...

D&D 4E Pramas and Mona Talk 4E and the OGL

Not quite. Well, maybe it's the closest match you can explain to a native English speaker. The "tonal" quality is almost that but it's much shorter than English "machine" or "green".

    Double Weapons: Scrap or keep?

I like double weapons and fantasy ones in general. I hope they will be treated more nicely game mechanic wise... Keep the double sword!!
