    New WotC Campaign Setting

Hah, nice...I've never even seen Midnight, but I come up with the idea either too late, or never do anything with it. This is like the story of my life. In the mid-1980s I was dusting the living room and noted all of the dust on the TV screen. I thought to myself, wow, because of the...

    Animated Shields

True, but if he wanted something specialized for a BBEG, then a second shield could provide an unnamed bonus to the first shield, or just have it's own rules.

Rare Material Components to boost spells?

I am tinkering with a new Homebrew setting I just came up with the idea for this morning. In doing so, I was thinking...two of the things that most irritate casters are failing a roll to beat SR and having the bad guys save and take half or no damage. So I was thinking about coming up with a...

    New WotC Campaign Setting

It occurred to me today what I wanted to see in a new Campaign Setting. I would like a medium-magic fantasy campaign setting...where the "good" guys, are losing. Whole cities in ruin, countries fallen to evil humanoids, a nation of evil dragons, a wasteland of barbarian tribes...and a few very...

Mithral armor costs for small characters

I agree that when making armor out of Mithral, you get a discount on cost per pound of Mithral. I view this as design. These are set costs, based on understood value derived from the relative weight of the armor of each class and based on long understood patterns. Whereas, once you are talking...

I'll buy that, missed that table. Good catch.

powerful new feats from Complete Mage

I'm playing a barbarian 1, fighter 2, ranger 1 melee character. But, I have a solid int (14) and was thinking about taking a level of wizard. Now that I've seen Abjurant Champion...5 levels of that and then Eldritch Knight might be kind of nice. At the very least, I'm thinking about it.

Mithral armor costs for small characters

Understanding your logic and saying that it makes "a certain amount of sense," in no way implies that I agree with you. If I agreed with you, I'd have said, I agree with you. Instead what I am saying is that I can see what steps you took to arrive at your conclusion, but I feel you are wrong...

Mithral armor costs for small characters

I do understand your logic and going from medium to small or medium to large it makes a certain amount of sense and isn't terribly unbalancing. However, it breaks down completely when I'm making a set of Mithral Full Plate for a Storm Giant...or a set of Mithral Full Plate for a tiny sprite...

    Amassing a horde

That can all be adjusted by the size of the game world and relative rarity of Dragons, as well as how active they are. In a game where Dragons are territorial and therefore widely spaced and are additionally on a fairly inactive cycle of hunting and roaming, it is entirely feasible to have...

Mithral armor costs for small characters

The prices are based on weight, so I adjust them accordingly.

    Amassing a horde

I actually once ran a homebrew where a small rural area was experiencing a dramatic growth in ambushes, crime and the like from evil humanoids. This started slowly but was growing steadily when the PCs were turned loose on it. In game terms, the Gold Dragon which had been keeping the evil...

    Animated Shields

Hmm...I voted that they are fine as they are, but after thinking about it more, I guess it was wrong of me to vote that way for one big reason. I don't allow two handed weapons to be used with an animated shield and only allow a limited class of off hand weapons to be used with an animated...

Has the free Ars Magica pdf increased your purchases?

I hope this doesn't come off badly, but I almost think Ars Magica is too good as a system. It's not a simple game system and you can't just grab the book, give it a quick read and go. It requires a good bit of dedication from the GM and the players...but if you get that dedication and effort...

complete mage: fey feats way powerful?

Regardless, I can think of better things to do with three feats. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad. And if I want to do a "fey" theme'd character, those seem like a lock. But I don't look at them and go, "oh! have to have those!"

complete mage: fey feats way powerful?

Once you consider the other things a spell caster could have used those 3 feats on...it doesn't impress me that much. But keep in mind, I don't have Complete Mage yet.

    I need some advice....

Once it becomes clear your group is going to win a combat...summarize the rest of it and assign a small amount of damage. If the combat is very much a coin toss or such, then play it out. But once it hits the mop up stage, skip the rest. Keep a timer, small hour glass, or the like on the table...

    Continuous slippers of spider climbing

I figured as much, that's why I added... If you create a magic item that duplicates the powers/abilities of an existing item only it does it ...less expensively, more effectively, etc...I disallow those. Though, players are free to state their case, if I think the original item is...

I complain about the current MSRP of RPGs all the time...

I used to complain about the price of games, books and supplies. However, since I now work in business and have learned the finances behind keeping a company going. I'm just fine with the prices. Also, I think back on the companies that have gone under...and I'd have gladly paid double what...

    Continuous slippers of spider climbing

You likely already knew about those, but I post them here only because I don't allow the creation of magic items that duplicate an existing item in such a specific manner.
