    PF Dragonfire adept

That's only really true with the core classes-- the PF classes were designed to be balanced with the late-game base classes like the Dragon Shaman and Dragonfire Adept. That said... I still consider both to be pretty weak classes on their own.

Spoilers: Some guy in Friends & Family playtest apparently violates his NDA

It sounds pretty bad, and not at all something I would be interested in. But it's an early playtest.

    How about alignment?

Not particularly. I'm one of the flexible Paladin guys-- I'd like to see Paladins of any alignment, with the ability to smite enemies opposed to that alignment. And, as much as I like 3x3, I'd like to see other alignment axes introduced as optional rules as well. Maybe even something that could...

    Do you mark your books?

One of the ways that I fail at being a college student is that I refuse to mark up my textbooks. I just wasn't raised that way-- books were durable property to be cared for and passed on to others when we were done with them.

    Spells: How Many Levels?

I like the 3e style, but I think 9th level spells should only be the core spells-- and that high-level full casters should get 10th level spells for learning the 9th level spells from classes with the same power source, and for learning "epic" spells when they're available. And I vote for...

    How about alignment?

I want d20 Modern Allegiances with mechanical effects-- like mandatory Allegiances for certain character types, things for Paladins to smite. Maybe even a built-in Aspect affect like in FATE where characters acting in accordance with their Allegiances get more use out of action points.

    No Multi-Weapon Defense feat?

Actually... that would be a good feat: a feat that lets a character with three or more arms get a fixed AC bonus for using two or more shields.

Using Vital Strike with spells and other craziness

The part where it explicitly states that all effects that affect weapons have the same effect on spells that require attack rolls. It's not an implication , it is the plain written language of the rules whether you like it or not and whether you (rightfully) disregard it in your own campaigns or...

Using Vital Strike with spells and other craziness

Being able to fix something with House Rules doesn't mean that it was never broken in the first place.

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

The trick to making something like this work is to negate the players' advantage without negating their abilities-- find ways to keep their abilities from being effective without keeping them from using them. Let them be awesome without being invincible.

Removing X ability score minimum to cast spells

Thinking about it, removing the spell level to DC would be pretty good-- then casters don't need a high ability score, but ability damage is serious business.

    Whither the Ultimatum?

What I'm saying is, Hasbro's not going to engage in that kind of micromanagement. It's bad for business-- they're going to let the management at WotC make that decision. It's not the end of the world, but there's a difference between doing it over widespread dissatisfaction and doing it over a...

    Whither the Ultimatum?

It's not that simple. Hasbro doesn't own D&D, it owns WotC who owns D&D; Wizards of the Coast is still a separate legal and financial entity from Hasbro, but Hasbro owns 100% of it. Hasbro can hire upper management through the WotC Board of Directors, but WotC employees are WotC employees, not...

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

I haven't noticed any problems with Summoners being generally overpowered so much as godawful annoying-- there are some sweet exploits hidden in there, but for the most part they're not gamebreakers.

Removing X ability score minimum to cast spells

I would agree with this, but mathematically I don't really know how to address "penalty spells"-- shouldn't a low casting stat penalize your highest spells first? (Actually... that's an idea. If your score is below 10, you subtract one spell per day from each spell level equal or higher than...

    Whither the Ultimatum?

There's a difference between "profitable" and "successful", from Hasbro's perspective. Hasbro owns WotC, but they don't manage it-- think of it like owning a stock. You've got a certain amount of money invested in it, and you cash your dividend checks like clockwork, but you don't go to the...

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

With few exceptions, character archetypes were deliberately designed to be weaker than base classes-- not just losing something to gain something, but losing something for the privilege. It's designed to limit power creep, and it works fairly well; the only archetypes that are notably superior...

"Finding the Path" for 3 February 2012

AD&D didn't have "weapon special qualities" like Pathfinder does. A flametongue was a specific kind of magical longsword and a frostbrand was another-- with a set enhancement bonus and other special abilities. Frostbrand also had the ability to insta-kill fiery creatures. Orc Bloodline is a...
