So, what did all the cool RPG designers do, originally?

A little bit of everything, in my case; a list of the jobs I've had includes commercial salmon fisherman, movie theater assistant manager, comic book colorist, customer service rep, order processor for sales, data entry monkey for the Department of Health, and The Temp (AKA the guy who comes in...

No stat blocks in modules per the GSL?

Correct. We'd basically do this for, say, a kraken: Kraken CR 12 hp 290 (MM 162) A strict reading of the GSL would seem to me to indicate that a 3rd party adventure could only use the word "Kraken," since the rest (CR and hp) aren't open content or in the SRD. And since you can't cite page...

New 4e campaign using Pathfinder's RotRL - Am I crazy?

I am, of course, VERY curious to know how this turns out for ya, if it's more work/trouble than it's worth, and how close the final converted adventure resembles the original. I suspect you'll be making up a LOT of monster stat blocks out of the blue, though... I mean... there's a goblin bard...

    Best Organized Adventure?

Interesting observation... Since I'm always looking for ways to make the adventures easier to run (without making them tougher to read... sometimes a tough balancing act, that!), what exactly do you mean by "background" material vs. "encounter" material? We try to make sure all the monster...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Encounter Design Simplified

Yeah! Great stuff, Wulf!!! Jason HAS been looking this over, but he's scrambling to get Alpha 3 ready for release so if he hasn't gotten back to you yet... that is indeed the reason why. It's a great example of why an open playtest of rules is a good thing. I really like how simple the system...

Huzzah! Red Hand of Doom finished!

Which is why Pathfinder Adventure Paths stop at 15th level or so, just about when the high level problems REALLY start kicking in. ;)

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder RPG: Hints of Bards to Come

The bard's my favorite class in the game, and since I sit right next to Jason here at Paizo... I will be pestering him more or less non-stop to awesome them up. Never fear.

    New GSL Announcement

I'm not sure how this is a "judo throw" to our announcement of the Pathfinder RPG. We weren't planning on supporting 4th edition with Pathfinder anyway... the whole POINT of Pathfinder RPG is to give us something of our own to build on. It looks like that means we won't be able to support 4th...

    GSL news.

Yup; to reinforce what several folk have already said... the Pathfinder RPG isn't Paizo's crazy attempt to replace D&D. Far from it. If there's room in today's market for Call of Cthulhu, D&D, Mutants and Masterminds, True20, etc. etc... there's room for the Pathfinder RPG. I'm really excited...

Who are your favorite Demon Lords?

Yeah... had nothing changed and had I continued writing Demonomicons... I would have pushed HARD for Orcus to be the last of the "core 14 demon lords." Mostly because he DOES have the most information out there of any demon lord if you don't count the Demonomicon articles and Savage Tide...

Who are your favorite Demon Lords?

No way! Obox-ob was killed, but the Queen of Chaos missed one of his aspects, and that aspect hid down in the deep until he grew back into proper demon lordliness. AKA: He got better!

Who are your favorite Demon Lords?

No way! You CAN'T have too many demon lords! That there's so many of them is part of the fun! :)

Game mechanics for Eberron Mind Flayer research lab / John Carpenter's 'The Thing'

You might want to check out d20 Modern's "Menace Manual." In particular, there's an entry in there for a monster called the Star Doppleganer, which is pretty much the monster from The Thing. (I know, because Matt Sernett, the guy who statted it up, had never seen The Thing before and had to...

    Your favorite demon lord

For me... it's a three-way tie between Demogorgon, Malcanthet, and Obox-ob. I'm still sad I never got a chance to write up an Obox-ob installment of the Demonomicon of Iggwilv.

    D&D 3.x WotC Rejecting 3.5 Writers?

Of course... about 75% of Red Hand of Doom was done by a "Paizo Guy"...

Dungeon 153 - Touch of Madness

Yup! Taking it a step further... that god's name is Vecna (yet another awesome anagram name from Gary!) :)

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advantage

The web enhancements have very little text, though; it's mostly art and maps, and that requires InDesign to build. That's not a program I or any of the other editors really know how to use, nor is it a program we have on our computers (we have a pared-down version called InCopy that we use to...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advantage

The discount is indeed a marketing move to drive traffic at Paizo, no doubt. But it's also not something we could have afforded to do at the start. Pathfinder's doing amazingly well, and it's that success that makes the discount something we can do in the first place. The discount is a way for...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Advantage

Just thought I'd pipe in here about those last few Dungeon web enhancements. The problem at the start, alas, was that we ran into a bottleneck. The web enhancements were ready for layout, and we've managed to squeeze in a lot of them here and there, but the switch from doing 2 magazines to a...
