The first season was good because it balanced the alien and the romance. As it progressed, however, romance took the show. Thee are some gem episodes past season one, it's just that overall it wasn't that spectacular. It really catered to the teen female crowd.

Depends on what the book is trying to do. Sometimes there might be good characters but the world is so stupid that the book is unreadable. SOmetimes it's just the opposite.
