I'd say a few minutes for a dagger or sword. Much faster for say a blowdart. Why not poison it in the sheathe, then wax it closed to prevent air spoilage?

On the subject of the ring, Velendo's Searing Light burned right through it's head, presumably searing the brain. That sounds more like 'dead' than 'mortally wounded' to me, so the ring may have had a Ressurection ability.

Follow PKitty's lead and make the weapons really go away. When you disarm someone unarmed you end up holding the weapon. Now where will a dragon be holding it if he uses his bite attack, and what can he do then? :)

Note that most of the above solutions will result in Chaos Spawn minis if used on plastic miniatures.

If you use BADD tactics an Adult would be a fight, and a Mature Adult would be a struggle with perhaps some deaths. More risks a TPK. But it depends on the factors listed by gfunk. If the dragon is asleep in it's lair and after waking up just goes straight into melee (stereotypical behavior)...
