    Monks and Gauntlets

Actually, Rogues do get simple weapon proficiency. You know - it doesn't exactly break my suspension of disbelief to think that Wizards are hopeless at unarmed fighting. But since Monks aren't specifically given proficiency with unarmed strikes, I've got to agree that it's not something you're...

    Flanking with yourself

Well, if Bob is weilding a spiked chain, and a medium creature is next to him, does Bob threaten the square on the other side of the medium creature? I'd say no - I think that the medium creature next to bob 'blocks' the threat. (I'd feel differently if it was more of a size difference - if...

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

I'm finding myself getting more issues of Dragon recently, but part of my problem in the past has been not being in enough 3.5 campaigns as a player. I'm in a 3.0 campaign as a player, so new rules crunch isn't as useful there, and I'm not as able to use the fluff because I'm not in charge of...

    Non-Core Class Survivor: Round 3

I'm more fond of the Duellist PC, at least for a few levels, myself. I like the Precise Strike ability, and the extra AC from your int doesn't hurt any.

    [Green Ronin] Freelancer Fundraiser

I'll be at Gen Con, and I look forward to picking up a book or two from you there.

    Recommend a Skill-Based Magic System

I've heard good things about what Green Ronin has done with skill-based magic, although I'm unsure which books you should read for that. Possibly the Advanced Player's Guide? That said, there are things to do with spellcraft that requires more than 10 ranks. There's forensic magic (what magic...

    The Shadowcaster -weak?

That might work - I'd have to have another look at the mysteries and see. Unfortunately, they don't let me do D&D research while I'm supposed to be working. ^_^

Remember the DUNGEON boardgame by TSR? Predated D&D?

Actually planning on skipping Tacticon this year. But i've got this Boardgames group I'm running that meets Thursday...

Remember the DUNGEON boardgame by TSR? Predated D&D?

Oh, I haven't played that in ages. Never knew that they bought the game from someone out-of-company.

    Treasure and leveling comparisons: AD&D1, B/ED&D, and D&D3 - updated 11-17-08 (Q1)

How would you suggest doing that? Was there a general time period that most groups would stop for retraining? Was it when 2 people needed retraining? When 75% of the group did? Did groups finish a module before being able to retrain? I never used the retraining rules when playing AD&D1...

    The Shadowcaster -weak?

I remember enjoying the flavor of the shadowcaster at the time, but I really didn't take a hard look at the mechanics then. I had another look last night, and it seems to me that there's a problem there with power, alright. A fifth level Shadowcaster has five fundimentals, two level 1...

    New (?) Feat: Greater Spell

Four levels sounds reasonable for the feat - Twin Spell is 4 levels, and it's about the same effect as that.

Goodman Games joins the high-priced market...

I'll keep an eye out for it - it sounds good, and if it gets good enough reviews I might pick it up and run a campaign off of it.

    PDF of Summoned Creatures

I've got a set of word files of the various summoned creatures, which works nicely enough for me. I don't remember where I downloaded them from... but as I'm playing a Conjurer who specializes in summoning monsters, it's a lifesaver.

"+1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class"

Here, it's in the 3.0 FAQ:

"+1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class"

Your caster level does increase, and you do get two additional spells per level if the arcane caster you're increasing is a Wizard. (Naturally, if you're playing a sorcerer, your spells go up as per that class.)

    Treasure and leveling comparisons: AD&D1, B/ED&D, and D&D3 - updated 11-17-08 (Q1)

I think this is a very interesting thread. I'm curious what data you calculated for 'Against the Giants'

    Deliria RPG

I got a copy for free as swag for running games (not for Deliria, but anyway), and I agree the book looks great. There's some mixed reviews on rpg.net, but if you really want to hear about how the game can be awesome, there's an actual play thread on rpg.net here...

The Complete Mage - What are your Thoughts

I hadn't really heard about this, but as I'm currently playing a Wizard I'm pretty interested in seeing what comes out there... always interesting to find new and different ways to blow things up. ^_^

    Origins Awards 2006 results

Board Game Geek gives it 6.7 out of 10. That doesn't sound like board game of the year material to me.
