D&D 4E DUNGEON and DRAGON --the 4E magazines

Oh, I have them all. I am just trying to find out which ones I should read, and which ones I can give a skip, what with limited time, and all.

D&D 4E DUNGEON and DRAGON --the 4E magazines

Which of the 4th Edition "Dungeon" on-line magazines, and which of the "Dragon" magazines, are "must-haves", if one were to select, say, 5 of each, to download? Don't just submit an answer; show your work, please.

    Basic Four

Do players have different motivations from their characters, do you think? It seems to me that the XP for Treasure scheme was an attempt to align the player's goals with that of their characters--the characters originally being considered to be Howardian sword-and-sorcery treasure hunters...

    Basic Four

You make valid arguments. My interest in including alignment languages is that they are, indeed, a weird element of the original rules that probably no one used, but that were yet part of the rules. Matt Colville, in one of his "Making a Fighter in Every Edition of D&D" videos, observes that...

    Basic Four

They are magical languages. Also, they are probably very jargon-y, and possibly the same words/acronyms/whatever mean different things to people of different alignments. An anecdote: I once worked for a certain company, and now work for a different company in a related industry that uses...

    Basic Four

I am thinking that group initiative every round might be rather swingy. That could be good, or bad.

    Basic Four

Diplomacy/Intimidate checks would be made three times during an encounter: once at the beginning, once when the first participant fell to 0 hit points (no matter which side), and once if/when the monsters lost half their number. If the monsters are stronger than the PCs, then the...

    Basic Four

Dwarves and Halflings get extra bonuses to Fort, Ref, and Will, to reflect the better saving throws of Basic. Level limits...not sure I like those, but without them, supposedly, no one would play a human. In basic, the level limits for elves, dwarves, and halflings were 10, 12, and 8(!)...

    Basic Four

The role for the Elf class could be controller, with defender as the secondary. Take the PH1 wizard, grant martial weapon proficiencies, armor and shield proficiencies, and allow powers from either the fighter or wizard classes, like a hybrid. Or, to save money, simply reskin the hexblade...

    Basic Four

I am playing around with doing a rules mash-up of my two favorite D&D rulesets: Basic (Moldvay B/X, BECMI, RC) and 4e, and am soliciting advice and ideas. The base rules would be 4e, with Basic elements mixed in. For example: XP for Treasure is definitely on the table, but how much XP should...

    D&D 4E New gamemaster to 4e

Although your players have already picked their characters' classes, I wanted to state that the Essentials Warpriest is quite fun to play. The character will be all over the battlefield (playing one reminded me of Gandalf), killing a monster over here, granting an ally a saving throw...

    A Dragonborn's Tail

I went out last night and hit several taverns. By the time I got back home, I was "tailside to the dragonborn" so bad I couldn't find the front door.

    A Dragonborn's Tail

I was doodling, drawing a dragonborn, and gave him a tail. When I checked, later, I discovered, sadly, that dragonborn do not have tails. It gave me an idea, however, about an alternate racial power for the dragonborn: the Tail Swipe. This would possibly replace the dragonbreath power, or maybe...

DMs Guild Update to B1 and B2

I received two separate emails from the DMs' Guild informing me that the B1 (In Search of the Unknown) and B2 (Keep on the Borderlands) modules had been updated (I had previously purchased both of these modules). Is there any information on what has been updated?

Which VTT is the bee's knees?

    Which do you prefer?
  19. cavalier973

Which VTT is the bee's knees?

Fantasy Grounds Roll20 Epic Table Etc. Which VTT is currently the preferred product? Explain your answer. I see that Fantasy Grounds "supports" the 5th Edition D&D rules. What does that mean, exactly? Do any of the other VTTs "support" some ruleset or other? What would be required to...

D&D 4E Weekly Wrecana: Improving Rituals

Just want to point out that the ritual casters in the party can create scrolls, and pass them to the non-ritualizers in the party to use. That way everyone can get in on the ritual fun!
