Why do people pretend CR makes sense?

Cthulhu, (an elder god) is CR 33, according to Call of Cthulhu d20 edition. Eliminster is CR 35. Chew that one over for a few seconds, it'll give you an impression of how well the CR system handles gods. Though, to be fair, It's a better impression of how annoyingly overpowered a GMPC is.

Go Play (Secret Gamer Code Shhhhhh)

You dislike Wikipedia. Okay, fine. Which origin do you want? -The IXYOE explanation -THe Agnostic Perspective -The Christian Explanation -The fishy origin. They all seem pretty much identical (just with different degrees of cynicism) , and these are just the first few hits off a google...

Go Play (Secret Gamer Code Shhhhhh)

Hmm, so there are a handful of naysayers, and a lot of people who are interested. Those few naysayers will eventually come around. Now, Len, I have to ask, since you are up in Canada, I presume that there is a different word for "play" in French (in regards to playing a VHS tape / Playing a...

Spells with that creepy Alienist Flavor

From PHBII 1st level: -Blade of Blood Your weapon does +1d6 damage, or +3d6 if you take 5 points of damage (the weapon literally drips with the corrosive blood of an alien creature) -Bigby's Tripping hand: A hand trips the target, you could make it a tentacle fairly easily :) 2nd level...

Does the Rakshasa have a too-high CR?

The problem i think is that the Rakshasa has a High charisma, but only an above-average intelligence and wisdom. This makes it difficult for GM's to perceive them as master manipulators... I think that they need a little bit of a better definition as a monster...

Go Play (Secret Gamer Code Shhhhhh)

Well, the first link discusses the logic behind making that symbol (and A/V workers already have their own bit of bumper-code, it looks like a reel-to-reel tape player.)

Go Play (Secret Gamer Code Shhhhhh)

It started less than a month ago with a post over on Story-teller about the Secret Language of Cars. Although the icons & avatars were already leaking over, the first RPG.net discussions showed up here two weeks later. It now has it's own web-page. This could be the next step for gamers...

Should the game be PC's vs. DM

Play Hackmaster, that game IS players Vs. the DM. Well, it has very strong player Vs. DM overtones.

    Code-name: "The Goblin Game"

Ooh.. i hope someone is resurrecting Goblins and Grenades! Player 1 "I move my jungle goblin forward six, and left three, and chuck the pineapple!" Player 2 "The pineapple? That's a fruit, not a grenade! You eat it to restore one health!" Player 3 "Too late, he already threw it. so it does...

Remind me again why I should like the PHB II?

I fail to see how this situation is any different from any of a myriad of other scenarios wherein the BBEG is discovered, and then one of his lieutenants steps up to deal with the party. (sure, normally it's a summoned monster or a group of expendable minions, but you get my point) All your...

Heh, okay, people are really digging on #2. By "Tomb raiding" I meant "We're claiming this artifact, for a museum, even if we have to fight our way through the elaborately designed ancient temple and deal with it's thirty-odd zealous guardians!" Swashbuckling cards are a must, as they have...

Remind me again why I should like the PHB II?

Sorry, the rules contradict you on this. Page 27 first paragraph. That includes OTHER knight's challenges. So, that kinda breaks the idea of calling back & forth.

Lots of love for these, and I like stormbron's #4 (filing that one away for later) SO how about I flesh out the top three a little more: 1: The players would be infused in toys which are appropriate for their character class. Maybe setting a goal at level 7 is artificially inflating it...

Monopoly d20 -- multiclass my thimble?

Just out of question ,your BM dosn't like the green properties, what happens when you get to North Carolina avenue? I mean, I just can't see how the game could function without the $1,275 rent with a hotel on it...

Remind me again why I should like the PHB II?

flavor matches. Knights are designed to single out an enemy and battle it honorably. And it's not really "suggestion-level" mind control. The enemy only has to show preference in fighting the knight, it's free to still attack other targets. I'll give you an example. Fighting Challenge: A...

Help me get vulgar in drow.

I recommend Infernal, where saying "Hi, how are you?" can make virgin ears bleed.

Remind me again why I should like the PHB II?

bleeding heck. I honestly think people who dislike the Knight play too many massively multi players on line. The number one thing i hear about it is "It causes AGGRO!" You know I never heard that term before the MMOs. It has a single, limited class-specific special ability set, that only...
