    YourGamesNow.com April Book Giveaway

Moderator's Notes Okay, folks, I think everyone is now aware of the potential legal issues. If you would like to discuss these issues further, you could do so by contacting Joe or Suzi or your local attorney general; I don't think it's appropriate to turn their announcement of a contest into a...

NC Game Day XIII (April 21-22): aka "Mini-GenCon"

Sorry about that--I'd already reserved three slots for DMing reciprocity (my regular DM, and then two that I'll be playing under at the game day), and I didn't really think about reserving slots for y'all. My apologies! However, one of the folks who signed up already has a reserved slot, which...

Is the "Keep it Clean" rule still in effect?

No worries. The Grandma rule is intentionally flexible, and we generally trust everyone to keep themselves in line. You should be fine as long as you watch your pees and queues. Daniel

Is the "Keep it Clean" rule still in effect?

I'm sorry, earle, but that's not it. We're not going to break each word down according to which definitions are acceptable to use. Instead, I'm going to need to refer you back to the rules of membership. Please reread those rules. They're intentionally vague precisely so that we don't have...

Is the "Keep it Clean" rule still in effect?

No, that's not okay. Words have different meanings in different contexts. Some words are by themselves problems; other words are only problems when used in certain contexts. Daniel

Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

Yeah. You know what? When one thread is causing this many problems, it's time for it to close. Clunk. Daniel

Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

Moderator's Notes Again, folks, posting politely, courteously, and respecfully is not difficult, and if you cannot do it, you will receive a ban from the site. Check your email, Storm Raven. The rest of you: best behavior. Daniel

Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

Moderator's Notes Okay, remember how I said that everyone needed to be on their best behavior, and take great pains to be civil, respectful, and courteous? Remember how I said that last time I gave out such warnings, people ignored them, and then got upset when they got temporary bans from the...

Is the "Keep it Clean" rule still in effect?

Okay, a little research later. There are a couple of other possibilities out there: 1) Sometimes we don't moderate in a thread if a problem seems to have sorted itself out by the time we get there, and the problem seems minor. 2) Sometimes people jokingly report moderator posts as a way of...

Is the "Keep it Clean" rule still in effect?

I believe our ruling is that neither word is naughty enough to cause problems, but I'll make sure the other mods get a chance to look in here and decide as well. More generally, we do not make exceptions to the rules for any posters, although we sometimes do handle moderation behind the...

Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

Moderator's Notes: Jensun, I thought I was pretty clear before about the need to be respectful, civil, and courteous. This post is one of at least two you've made since my warning that violates board rules, and my specific warning. Please do not post in this thread again. If you have...

Does your DM use dry erase boards? Don't they make you sick?

Yeah, I saw that when I went looking for some cites on this matter. Unfortunately, there's nothing there that's peer-reviewed or that draws a convincing link between normal use of dry-erase markers and any sort of health problems. I don't consider that to be a convincing cite--sorry! Daniel

Does your DM use dry erase boards? Don't they make you sick?

Incidentally, we use them all the time, and I love them. If there's good evidence that such use is dangerous, I wanna know--especially since as a teacher I'll be using a whiteboard daily! Daniel

Does your DM use dry erase boards? Don't they make you sick?

From the CDC: The effects disappear when exposure is stopped, except in cases of high levels. I have a very hard time believing any dry erase marker has high levels of toluene, and especially that you'd suffer the listed symptoms just from proximity to their use. Daniel

    Magic Item Compendium

Moderator's Notes Absolutely inappropriate, two. I need you to not post in this thread again, and I need you to review the forum rules. You must maintain civility, courtesy, and respect, even toward your archnemesis, should said archnemesis ever choose to post on this board. Daniel

Does your DM use dry erase boards? Don't they make you sick?

Could you provide some peer-reviewed research that backs this up, especially backing up the implication that normal use of dry-erase markers significantly increases the risk of brain damage? I've never encountered this idea before. Daniel

Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

Two Moderator's Notes 1) I want to remind folks to keep things civil. It's against the rules to insult people even if you do it as part of a post complimenting someone else. It's against the rules even if you're oblique about it. Civility, courtesy, and respect must be your guides if you...

How to Make D&D Accessible to the Non-Mathematically Inclined?

Oh, dear. Both of these are morale bonuses. You shouldn't be taking another +1 to hit! And so we see why the math is difficult :). Edit: Just to add to the confusion, if the bard is singing the "Inspire Greatness" song, it's a competence bonus and therefore stacks with Bless, but only for a...

Illusionist with a hostage, what would you do?

Absolutely I would be, for several reasons: 1) It's unlikely that the DM has done so; 2) It's unlikely an illusionist would have need of such a feat; 3) It's not just the hostage's life I'm betting. It's the lives of the people the illusionist will kill if I let him go. A decade ago, I read a...
