    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

I hate Eberron. I hated it then, and I hate it now. And the others are campaigns, and I just don't like running canned modules. I never have. So, I bought none of those. Sometimes I like the crunch in some of those books, but they tend to reprint that stuff in other places, too.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

Those 3 were just examples. I've only purchased the core rulebooks, Volo's and Xanathar's. That's it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I no longer WoTC's target audience?

I'm reading about Mercer's new campaign sourcebook coming out from WoTC, and I've decided that I'm no longer WoTC's target audience. Maybe that puts me in the minority of gamers, and I would imagine that WoTC knows exactly what they're doing with some of the books and supplements they've come...

    D&D General d&d is anti-medieval

Valid options, I suppose. I think D&D complicates the real-world parallels by actually granting spells. So, in some sense, the god's power in a given area might be direct reflection of how powerful of a cleric there is in that area, and it's liable to change fairly fluidly over time, I would...

    D&D General d&d is anti-medieval

I just got through doing a lot of research on this very topic. And I would say that D&D isn't really medieval, but the game itself doesn't force a particular model over another. It can be as "medieval" as you want it to be. The game I just started running is quite medieval, and I'm trying to...

Starfinder Starfinder Meets Alexa: A Review

I challenged my daughter to try this. She's playing it now. That's very cool!

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

Arkansas here, and the town I grew up was small enough, that I don't think anyone in my entire county even sold these products. My oldest sister acquired the red boxed set, and gifted it to me since she couldn't figure out what to do with it. I also didn't really grok the concept until I was...

    Online play?

This is frustrating. I've searched through those forums (and this one), yet none seem to have the ability to post inline photos. I want to be able to post a picture of an NPC and put text next to the image of what the NPC is saying. I think it ends up making the PbP look really good. Yet, none...

D&D 5E (2014) In need of a particular magic item...

I was working on a campaign that basically involved these cultists who planned on using the Apparatus to transfer the intellect of their leader into the body of a Tarrasque.

D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

I thought some of the questions could have used an "I don't remember option". Like, I was in 6th grade when my oldest sister gifted me the red boxed set. A lot of the details surrounding that were fuzzy. But I loved the books, and the dice, and I play the solo story a lot (always died at the...

    Online play?

I ran a campaign a couple of years ago, and it was great, but it dissolved because of ... adults, and life. Typical stuff. I've been thinking about restarting that campaign (with different players), but something more online, and not in person. I ran a PbP (on CircvsMaximvs) for a while, and...

D&D 5E (2014) In need of a particular magic item...

There's an artifact, called the Apparatus, or Alchemists Apparatus. If you have access to a Book of Artifacts, you'll find it in there. Basically, two people go inside, and it transfers one mind into the mind of the other. It has other powers as well. Far too complex to go into here. But it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaign collaboration

So, I have a loose structure for my campaign. Essentially, it's a rewrite of the old 2nd edition boxed set for the Rod of Seven Parts. Except it doesn't suck. While I borrow some elements from the original, mine involves quite a bit more regional history, and easily takes characters from 1st to...

DO NOT cut down the trees (adventure ideas!)

I think if you wanted to cut down a million trees, it's very likely the druids, dryads and treants might want to have a word or two with you about that. At some point, the forest itself is likely to revolt.

RPG Evolution: RPGs Have a Health Problem

This article is interesting, but I think there are a myriad of problems with making money in the game industry. Politics and economic discussions aside, for whatever reason, gamers have always notoriously been very cheap people. You need only look at the number of poor people sleeping on the...

    Breaking the Mold

In 3e, I made a gnome cloistered cleric/bard/rogue for a PbP game. GM let me stack the cloistered cleric knowledge ability with bardic knowledge (since they are essentially the same), and I managed to work into it all the prerequisites for all the various synergy bonuses for skills. He was a...

I ran a one-shot for kids this weekend

A friend of mine had reached out recently to see if I'd be willing to GM a game for his two daughters, who are 10 and 11 (I think). My friend also reached out to some of his connections, and found a mom with two boys who were also dying to play some D&D, who were (I think) 9 and 11. I also...

Research: What Makes a GM Great?

I don't know about "great". I think very few GMs actually get to "great", but I'm ok with being good, since even that takes a long time to master. To be "great", you have to have amazing pacing, and be a good voice actor - being a good actor in general doesn't hurt, and you have to run a great...
