How much to pay for writers of PDF products

As a writer, I'd much rather have an upfront fee than a royalty. I've been paid both ways (granted these are for print books, not PDF) and royalties are a huge hassel. First off you have to wait a while for your money, which comes in small chuncks. You also are trusting the company to pay you...

[Slightly silly] Why are the heads of companies always 'Presidents'?

I'm sure most companies have a President since that what other companies have always done. Plus President has an "elected by the people" connotation that other titles don't have. Interestingly, the "president" of the Thrifty Car Rental has the title "Captain"

    Cheap alternatives to Dwarven Forge

I second the Hirst Arts molds. Nothing beats being able to make your own pieces. That way you don't end up with a piece you never use and if you need more you can make them fairly effortlessly.

Making a Gaming Soundtrack - How Do I Edit MP3's?

You need some audio editing software. I know that Pro Tools has a free version you can download, also Cakewalk has some good software as well, Cool Edit Pro. Not sure if it is free. In a nut shell you need to rip the song off of the CD and into a WAV format. If you do not know how to do that...

    lookups in Excel

Well the Vlookup and Hlookup are pretty easy. The function is vlookup(what to lookup, where to look it up, what column to display) The table you are looking things up in must be sorted by whatever you want to look up. The main difference between vlookup and Hlookup is that in vlookup the...

    Miniatures for D&D

Reaper's minis are the best in quality and price (in my opinion). They have a new line called Warlord which are a little bigger and very dramatic. I just picked up their townsfolk packs. I now have minis of a bartender, 2 wenches, a blacksmith, madame and strumpets, and some random villagers...

What is Gear Krieg Like? and is it Pulpy enough?

Most of my experience is with the tabletop WWII tactical game. The deeper into the war you get, the more pulpy everything becomes. It starts out with just walkers (called gears) entering into the war, soon Tesla cannons appear on tanks, German rockettroops fly across the sky, US soldiers wear...

What Pulp or pulp style games are out there?

There is Pulp Adventures for Rolemaster. Lots of non-game specific information in it. It is great I tell you, the best I've ever read. And I'm not just a fan, I'm also one of the authors. ;-)

    What's the appeal of Hackmaster

Ok, on a previous thread it was pointed out that HackMaster was not just a very long running joke. So, what is it about HM that appeals to you? Is it all the silly races (gummy golems and gnome titans) or is it something deeper? Just curious. Thanks.

    Marvel Hero Clix

Try MKRealms Your best bet is to go to www.mkrealms.com. They have a list of every figure and it's dial but I don't think it is downloadable. However they do have a very active forum with people who probably have the very thing you are looking for. Battle On.

    (OT) New B5 rpg?

Well who is the JMS guy and why does he think he knows anything about Bab5. :p Just kidding. Can't get much more official than that.

    (OT) New B5 rpg?

Odd. Agents of Gaming (who did the B5 miniature game) stated that Warner Brothers was not making any new licensesed games with the Bab 5 property. Curious.

Johnny Wilson on Dragon 300 at www.gamingreport.com

He was the editor for Computer Gaming World for many years before it was purchased by Ziff-Davis (which led to the downfall of an otherwise great magazine, IMHO. I finally let my subscription lapse when the magazine was so thin it felt like a sales pamphlet).

    [OT] Favorite Band?

*Sigh* I kept hoping to see Cheap Trick listed but I guess I'll have to be first. 20+ albums, 25 years and they are still going strong. I love that band. (Oh yeah, and They Might Be Giants) (and Queen) (and Eve's Plumb)

    [Spycraft] Bursts, Autofire, and You

Ah talking about guns, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I like the idea about different recoil categories. Again more book keeping but if your group does a lot of autofire then it might be worth it. I remember firing a fully auto Thompson and being pretty surprised how little the...

    [Spycraft] Bursts, Autofire, and You

Just kind of a fact check... The writer of that article (about the 93R) must either be a big guy, have strong arms, or using subloaded bullets because the only weapon I know of that can claim to have the 3 round leave before recoil moves the barrell is the H&K G11 which fires at around 3000 rpm...
