What made the Mongols so good?

Another thing that ought to be pointed out is the advantage of terrain... You see, the Mongols were better than anyone at fighting in large, wide-open places, because they had mobility and range. This is one of the main reasons their conquests stopped at Europe; they lost their advantage in the...

Need Help with Ship Names, Types

Elves? Xebecs: http://pirateshold.buccaneersoft.com/images/ships/xebec2.jpg (small, fast, and good in all but the heaviest seas). Hobgoblins? Triremes and the like: http://pirateshold.buccaneersoft.com/images/ships/xebec2.jpg Orcs? No idea.

    Milk from Cows?

Ewwwww... Having read what I've read about what hagfish themselves eat, and where they like to hang around, I'd have to say 'no' to hagfish slime scones. Blech!

PCs and the people that love them

Well... In a star wars game I started not too long ago, one of the other PCs is an old friend of my character (we both had the same master, but he left the Order at some point), and he asked me to help him resume his training, which I have. So, technically, he's sort of an apprentice now. In a...

[Star Wars] Help me plan an adventure on Ossus (or 'I demand ideas...please?')

    1. Hmm, well, something I forgot to mention earlier is that Yoda is off looking for the Sith himself, and that's part of why everything is going to hell in a handbasket for the Jedi. That gives me an idea, however (i.e. Iurra thinks she's discovered something really bad, and she's gone looking...

[Star Wars] Help me plan an adventure on Ossus (or 'I demand ideas...please?')

Ok, so, I just went through what I thought was going to be two sessions worth of stuff in one session, so I need to plan the final 'leg' in a somewhat shorter timeframe. FYI, this campaign is taking a somewhat...liberal...interpretation of what happened a bit before the Rise of the Empire era...

    "Anachronisms" in your game

Ok, how about a point-by-point? Assuming that I'm trying to replicate 12th century europe in 'broad strokes'... 1. The 'dominant' religion is a very low-key 'do-unto-others' sort of church, and it has a small (four-member) pantheon, is divided into many different sects and factions (and...

Lady Acoma has hit the 500 mark!

Now, this is just dishonest. I mean, posting about posting--not even your own posting--just to increase your postcount?! Bad form! Bad form! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go ahead and... BUMP At least I didn't put the bump in a separate reply...

    Info on American States?

Washington State: Half temperate rainforest, half inhospitable desert in which only brave fools and vicious mutants live (with lots of apples around the only river that goes through said desert). Surprisingly, we don't really get all that much rain in the Seattle area, but everybody seems to...

    [SWd20] Force Skills Cheat Sheet

Yoinked. As the co-GM of a campaign that started last saturday (I was a player then, and I'm going to be GMing the next adventure this coming weekend), I think that this will help a lot. Long story short, it's a mostly jedi (and former jedi) campaign taking place in the undefined 'golden age'...

How would you like the world to end?

Ragnarok. I mean, seriously, which other ending has snakes, wolves, giants, gods, earthquakes, the loss of the sun and the moon, a new, better world coming out of the event, and the epitome of [Epic] battle? None of them; that's which! Yep. Ragnarok.

Tell me about your favorite character of all time.

My most recent character in a Star Wars campaign that started last night, no doubt. Callon Kordyr is the archetypical human (both as a species and in that he's "only human") Jedi Knight. He's cool under pressure, quick to laugh and smile, nearly impossible to anger, and he doesn't hesitate to...

How Big is the Big Picture?

Well, for my semi-regular fantasy campaign, the PCs are just starting to get involved in things that will rock the foundations of a smallish nation, which may (or may not) lead to something intimately tied to the fate of a region about the size of western europe. For the near-future...

    A New Power - OOC

Real life has been quite busy, but things are simmering down now... However, there hasn't been much for my character to do, either--at least that's been obvious. I've been under a fair amount of mental strain lately, so I may not be as astute as I usually am...

Out of the Frying Pan... (d20 Star Wars)

Callon stood up and shouted to his men. "CHARGE!!" He surged forward. (OOC: Run action, in the direction of the outpost. PS: Sorry everybody! I had some final stuff to get ready for graduation and didn't get around to posting.)

    It's NOT!!!!....*speaking on the weather*

50s and 60s all week, and rainy. Two weeks ago it was in the high 80s and so sunny that I could only go outside for short periods of time. But, then again, that's seattle-area weather for you.

Should/could there be an IronPC tournament?

In the same vein as 'Ceramic DM', I think it should be 'Carbon Fiber PC' or perhaps 'Adamantine PC' to go with the whole D&D flavor thing... Good idea, however. I'm not sure I'd be able to accomplish much in the competition, but I'd certainly like to watch.

    D&D Class Survivor -- Round 1

Monk. There's only one reason it's even legitimately in the game, as far as I'm concerned; there aren't any feats for fighters to take that make unarmed combat worthwhile. I mean, seriously! It's as out of place as a Swashbuckler or Paladin would in in OA, or a Jedi would be in a Star Trek...
