    Thinking Too Hard About Fantasy

A million people need no more than about 2 million acres to feed them, with early medieval farming; that's only about a 55x55 mile patch of land, which, looking at a map of Italy, I can reasonably say Rome had at its disposal. That said, that 2 million acres is going to mean maybe as many as...

    And then suddenly...

One thing I said too much in the past, and now say in a humorous capacity, while GMing, is... "You see a disturbing sight..."

Is There Much Age Difference In Your RPGing Group?

No, as of now. Mean Age: 18 Median Age: 18 Mode Age: 18 Range: 6 One 15-year-old, me (18), one other 18-year-old, and one 21-year-old. That said, we may have another 21-year-old in the group soon, and the other 18-year-old has his birthday in August (mine being in October)...resulting in...

    Beowulf and Grendel

It's coming to Seattle on the 16th of this month, according to the movie's website, and unfortunately that's the day I'm leaving for a weekend of gaming in Bellingham.

    what races in your fantasy?

Yaaros and Dying Light Well, lately, my fantasy games have been human-only, but with a fair amount of variation between the different cultural/racial groups. I'll list the major ones from the campaign I just finished, and those from the new setting I've been working on for about a week. YAAROS...

Do you use miniatures/tokens in your D&D game?

Best of both worlds; I use an 11x17 pad of 0.25-inch grid graph paper. You see, most of the games I do are of sorts that there aren't really good minis for. This is because, stylistically, I always try to err on the side of realism; what something would look like if it was real. A lot of minis...

The top 100 'Sacred Cows' of Roleplaying

Ostensibly, rolling stats has two ultimate outcomes... 1. Some party members are just plain 'better' people than others, which can work, but can also sow resentment ("His paladin is stronger, wiser, tougher, and more charismatic than my fighter! He does the same damage as me, destroys undead...

Homebrew Worlds- What is in YOUR world?

Well, I've got three 'good' fantasy settings, really; Aaldor is the one I ran a full campaign in, Vyrland is the one I've been whittling away at in my spare time, and Sky Pirates is on the back-burner for the time being. FYI, all of these are True20 settings. Aaldor is 'medium' magic (mages are...

    Is D&D Your Favorite RPG?

No. My personal conversion to True20 is total. That said, D&D is certainly one of the first systems I'd choose to work with if, for some reason, True20 wasn't the best suited. That said, I have yet to come up with a concept for a game that I would want to play or run with something other than...

    Is D&D Your Primary RPG?

Nope. The last time I played any incarnation of D&D was 3.5 about a year ago. After that, it was SWD20, followed by True20 from late august to the present.

Do you prefer ambiguously open poll questions?

I don't think it's just been Mark (though I haven't actually checked); it just seems as if there have been a fair number of the more ambiguously worded poll questions lately. So, I've taken it on myself to make fun of everyone involved. Speaking of which, I ought to point out that I voted...

Do you prefer ambiguously open poll questions?

In light of all of the polls lately, I thought I'd post one of my own. No offense to those whose polls I'm making fun of. Well, ok, a little bit of offense intended, but only just enough for it to be funny.

    Climate

In my modern campaign, the PCs are currently in Seattle... So I voted 'City' and 'Swamp,' as that's the closest approximation to Seattle, as far as I'm concerned...well, the waterfront and industrial district, but that's beside the point; the city was built on a marsh and the surrounding hills.

How far have you gone in a base class?

Level 12 Barbarian; started at level 1. Reached a maximum level of 12. In SWD20 I played a Jedi Guardian from level 7 to 11, and then continued to 13 in Jedi Master, for roleplaying reasons.

    Your "social setting"

I voted 'Medieval Europe' but only because it's the closest approximation. You see, in the 'normal' part of the setting, it's a fairly europe-like range of climate and geography, and it has a level of magic fairly similar to the real world, at least as far as 99.99% of the population are...
