What can Google Insight tell us about RPGs?

Interesting. I wonder if there is a notable drop when the DDI went live. Speaking only for myself, I don't Google D&D ever --- I just go straight to Wizards. I probably use the DDI at least 4 hours a week.

Given their vocal support of brick-and-mortar, I'm suspecting not, but maybe they can answer that on the forums.

RSDancey replies to Goodman article (Forked Thread: Goodman rebuttal)

I'm sure there's a name for this fallacy, but I don't know it. Anyhow, this idea that a new medium will eclipse all previous media hasn't held up in my (admittedly short) experience. Plays should have been killed by movies. Movies should have been killed by television. But I did a Google...

Stunting and the Bag of Flour Connundrum

Get a boffer sword. Give flour boy a dice bag filled with flour. For realism, have him store that bag inside of a backpack. Stand within 5 feet of your friend who wants to blind foes with flour. Have the gaming group shout, "Go!" If he can blind you before you boff the heck out of him, he...

Hard Data dilemma, Forked Thread: Goodman state of 4E

Forked from: Goodman rebuttal Okay. Does the absence of data trump all discussion? I know that anecdotal evidence is worthless, but it also frustrates me to see discussion shut down/trumped, for lack of numbers. For instance. Filcher: The sun will rise tomorrow. User X: Let's see your...

Total agreement. A good plan requires a strategy as well as tactics. In my opinion, Goodman is advocating for both.

Objectively: Because Joseph has cultivated a relationship with stores, that in turn, have a reason to order DCCs through distributors. By contrast, Necromancer, a company I love, hasn't released product in a year, and has canceled all their projects for the last year. I can see why game...

    Goodman rebuttal

I read it rather that, "industries have low and high points. It is a mistake to judge your work as a failure if it doesn't automatically exceed the 20 year high point."

    Goodman rebuttal

I don't think this is a bad thing. Plants need to be watered, our gaming industry needs to be supported. I didn't read that. Also, GG is already supporting Pathfinder with their 3.5 DCCs, right?

    Goodman rebuttal

Forgive me, but I don't think it was intended to address the issues in Clark's post. Rather it placed the question of D&D in a larger context. What is the benchmark of success? Anti-4E folks will come in and say Wizards expected nothing less than the 3.5 peak, therefore 4E must be a failure,"...

    Necromancer Games-update by Orcus

I think that given the economy, and lack of non-Goodman 4E 3pp FLGS enthusiasm, and the lapse in time since the last Necromancer product, that getting a new Necro 4E product onto game store shelves and selling it, would be a full time job. Clack and Co. have full time jobs. So they'd rather...

    Everyone starts at 1st level

"Save the cheerleader." Make the 1st level PC absolutely crucial to saving the world. If the higher level PCs let him/her die, the universe implodes.

    Rules overload for players

Disagree. You just have to know your character. Even starting at high level is pretty easy if you use the DDI and spend some pre-session time daydreaming about your character and how you are going to kick arse.

If you play OED&D/retroclones, this questionnaire is for you

    1. What are you doing with an original edition/retroclone D&D? I'm playing in an established campaign as a player 2. What type of roleplaying game were you still playing before you became interested/involved in an original edition/retroclone? Still playing 4E D&D 3. If you were playing 3E...

I'm down for some Mentzer D&D or 4E, and maybe AD&D, but likely not.
