    Everburning Torch question ...

    I still think the "no feat required" thing is completely irrelevant and uninformative. But I do think you have raised an interesting point, which is that if it were not listed under Magic Items, the only other place to put it would be under Equipment, which also seems inappropriate. Of course...

    A question about charm spells...

    If you ask me, it is unlikely that the character would ever figure out that he had been charmed, unless he was presented with the facts in an unavoidable way. Such as ... if someone said, "I can't believe you would betray me like that. I'm your faithful friend." And even then, I think it...

    Everburning Torch question ...

    Or maybe, the torch would be as bright as a real torch as long as you didn't make the saving throw. If you successfully disbelieved it, then the light would go out! :p (Actually, I think 2/5 sounds about right, although I don't know how you arrived at that specific fraction.)

    Everburning Torch question ...

    I would agree with this reasoning, wholeheartedly, if not for the fact that unlike most other permanent spell effects, this one produces a wondrous item. That's the only reason I have to believe that this is to be treated differently. The more I think about it, the more I think that the DMG...

    Everburning Torch question ...

    I stand corrected. I guess you could try to make a profit. However, I still have some doubts about whether the shadow version would be as useful as the real version. The DM could reasonably decide that the torch itself would glow brightly, but that it would not illuminate anything else...

    Everburning Torch question ...

    Bestow Curse has a duration of permanent, yet it cannot be dispelled. Someone is bound to say that most spells (other than instantaneous durations) can be dispelled, unless the spell descriptions specifically says that it cannot be, as is the case with Bestow Curse. But, the Dispel Magic...

    Familiars = Equipment?

    I like this approach for animal companions, but familiars are much more intimately bound to their masters. In my understanding, they know the master's thoughts and wishes, unlike animal companions who can only follow the signals or commands that they are given. It seems to me that only in very...

    Everburning Torch question ...

    In that case, wouldn't it be odd that it should be listed in the "Wondrous Item" section of the DMG, with no statement to the effect that it is not really like every other item listed there? Maybe you would say that it is only there for convenience, so that when the DM rolls for random...

    Everburning Torch question ...

    Re: Re: Everburning Torch question ... I don't understand what the "light" spell would have to do with it. If "Continual Flame" were to be treated the same as a permanent version of "light", then there would be no need to have the higher level spell at all!

    Familiars = Equipment?

    There is a spell in Tome and Blood that creates an extradimensional space in your cloak that protects your familiar from danger. Unless you have such an extradimensional pocket, your toad in your pocket has to be vulnerable, at least to some degree, although it will be fairly well protected by...

    Everburning Torch question ...

    Clever, but Shadow Evocation can only be used to immitate evocations. Continual Flame is an illusion, not an evocation. But if you had access to enough ruby dust, you could make a decent profit, as long as you were willing to devote your spell slots to it.

    Everburning Torch question ...

    At first, I read kreynolds post and was persuaded. But after some thought, I'm going to offer a different opinion. The fact that it says "no feat needed" does not have any obvious implication. One could draw the conclusion, that it is therefore not a magic item, but only if you take it as a...

    Calculate your own DnD stats

    I agree that the intelligence part is not very accurate. Education level is probably more indicative of socio-economic resources than actual intelligence. I don't know why entering your IQ score would throw things off though. That would seem the most accurate reflection.

    Who leads in the marching order?

    It's just that there are so many reasons to put the rogue up front that I couldn't list them individually. I also should have put: "somebody with uncanny dodge," "somebody with evasion," "whoever has the best reflex save" "whoever has the best spot skill" "the halfling, just because he is...

    Who leads in the marching order?

    How do you determine marching order? Needless to say, you might have a character that is the stealthiest AND the hardest to hit. . . . but let your answer reflect the MOST IMPORTANT criterion.
