    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore Article 4/1/14 (Fighter Maneuvers)

I don't have any big problems with "Come and get it"-like powers in 4e, but I would prefer if they were, as you say, left to magic-users. I am a bit gamist though, so even if I could have disallowed the "Come and get it" power from 4e at my table, I didn't. I just think it's sloppy design...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore Article 4/1/14 (Fighter Maneuvers)

I think I get where you are coming from, but maneuvers don't HAVE to be gamist. Avoiding powers like "Come and get it" from 4e, but allowing maneuvers like Bull Rushing (for pushing), or some manuever that uses a whip to pull would let people who like 4e most of what they want. In other words...

    Book printing quotes (transparency)

From the numbers above you extrapolate that each book costs 4.491$ to print and that the print setup costs roughly 7579-7722.5$ I used these two equations to get those numbers. I checked them against the 1000 and 2000 units and they fit pretty well. 200x+y=8620 2500x+y=18950

D&D 5E (2014) Would a repeat of the large errata from the previous edition put you off of Next?

My gripe with 4e was the long fights you got at higher levels due to low damage. You could "optimize" your way out of it, but the guys I game with don't do that and just play a straight up Fighter, Warlock or whatever. The result is that my character does about 2x the damage of the other...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 03/28/2014

Sure, you can run into a named level 15 kobold, but that's not 4e does. It gives you a generic level 15 monstrous humanoid that you can use by the score. Which is what I would be trying to avoid if I wanted some semblance of progression as you level up. At level 15, I would think that Giants...

You're Doing It Wrong - On Purpose

For 4e my monsters have to-hit and defences as if they were in the range +2 to -2 compared to the PCs. If a monster is higher in level, it gets to-hit/defences as if it was +2 levels higher than the PC's, and vice versa for low level monsters. The same goes for skills. It's my implementation...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 03/28/2014

Defcon1 explains it better in the next post: Just because the rules make it easy to scale monsters shouldn't have made it the norm for the game, because of the highlighted quote above. It's not really an inherent flaw in the rules of 4e, but of how the rules were used to create the monster...

D&D 5E (2014) Move Attack Move: Issues with The New Standard for Combat

Btw, the example with the narrow corridor and such make the rule sound stupid, but if you instead take the example of several horsemen with lances attacking a single target, and then riding past it seems completely natural. I think the "issue" presented in the OP isn't very problematic and not...

D&D 5E (2014) What's the rush? Has the "here and now" been replaced by the "next level" attitude?

For me, it's the build. At level 9 I finally get Whirlwind attack, at level 15 I can cast quickened Divine Power, and so on. At the same time, I do enjoy the "now" of adventures, but more so as a DM than a player. Maybe because I am so focused on the "next" level as a player?

D&D 5E (2014) Should D&D be marketed like Coke, Ketchup, or Spaghetti Sauce?

The same reason you run home made adventures. To get them to your exact taste. (In Norway you can't buy spaghetti sauces without about 10% sugar and 1% salt, which also means they aren't healthy and tastes like kiddy food. For my own sauce I use half a tea spoon of sugar as seasoning for 2-3...

D&D 5E (2014) Should D&D be marketed like Coke, Ketchup, or Spaghetti Sauce?

You don't make your own spaghetti sauce? I don't think there is a best version of D&D. I am quite sure I could go back and play any of the earlier editions and have fun. It's like eating different types of beef steaks, all with different tastes and textures.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&DNext WotC Adventures

My point about reading speed was just that I don't take a long time to read through an adventure, but I can find them hard to grasp anyway. It especially applies when I want to do a modification, like removing a DM-PC (like the one you have in WotBS). I do think there is a middle ground between...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&DNext WotC Adventures

You don't? A 64-128 page adventure is something you easily grasp? For me, that's a lot of information to digest*. I ran the first module in WotBS and really liked it, but it had a lot of information spread out over a lot of pages. It did have enough information that it was easy to wing it after...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&DNext WotC Adventures

I never write boxed text for my own adventures, that's for sure. I use the type of shorthand you would use on a cheat sheet for a speech or an exam. As little text as possible, with as much information as possible. Full sentences aren't a good idea in either instance. The work I want to be done...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&DNext WotC Adventures

The problem with boxed text is that it gets read when it's not appropriate. For instance if the room is pitch black, the troll already ate the Thief, then got eaten, and so on.

    ZOMG! D&D drops to #4

I am assuming the sales from http://www.dndclassics.com/ isn't included here? I haven't actually bought anything from there yet, but it's really tempting. Part of what's holding me back is the bad scan quality on some older items (where they haven't ocr'd the text so it gets 100% crisp).

What's a resonable price-point for entry into the RPG hobby?

I DM-ed 3e and 3.5 for several years without buying a single book. In other words, I think your theory that buying books is a requisite for being an equal participant in the hobby unlikely to hold water. I didn't buy any books because I had access to the books I wanted, since a friend of mine...

Cost of D&D Editions, then and now

Ah lol :D "You" in this instance would be a retailer like Amazon (or rather, their Norwegian counterpart). ;)

Cost of D&D Editions, then and now

You are referring to used book prices. I was talking about widely available new books. MSRP isn't really interesting when you can buy the items at nearly half the price for the whole "shelf life" of the book. I am betting 5e will have the same pricing scheme. A high MSRP that you won't ever have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 03.10.2014: Full-spellcasting Bard

Because the art of creating magic items is lost? Anyway, I do feel that the abundance of casters in DnD does make for some weird campaigns/campaign settings. My current Dnd party consists of a spellcaster bard, spellcaster druid and a spellcaster paladin/sorcerer. There is also a Rogue, but...
