D&D 5E (2024) What old monsters should return to 5e?

The Garlic Bread Golum and the Carnivorous Typo (from Chaosium's All the World's Monsters).

Sale Possible IP Rights for Sale

I need to build a financial reserve to prepare for the eventuality that my primary source of income (SSDI) should go away. To that end, I'm considering selling the IP rights to Six-Hack, the fantasy RPG that I Kickstarted last year. DM me if interested.

D&D General What Is D&D Generally Bad At That You Wish It Was Better At?

Agree. I once saw a reviewer (correctly) refer to D&D horror as "a werewolf in every wood and a vampire in every cupboard" which is apt. D&D horror has a lot of the superficial trappings of the genre, but handles the execution poorly, IMO. [Edit: As another post in this thread noted, you can...

What is/are your most recent TTRPG purchase(s)?

I grabbed a POD copy of the D&D Rules Cyclopedia before the prices go through the roof.

DriveThruRPG Print-on-Demand Prices Going Up By As Much As 50% In The US

Ugh. It's my birthday tomorrow. Think I'll pick up the latest copy of HARP.

DriveThruRPG Print-on-Demand Prices Going Up By As Much As 50% In The US

Hmm. I was considering pulling the trigger on some more RPGs that I will definitely never run/play. Perhaps now is the time.

    GM no-roll

A great point. I first ran across this kind of design in Legendary Lives by Marquee Press and it was a (literal) game changer. I loved it as a GM and a player. BUT, yes, this kind of thing only works in games designed to accommodate it from the ground up. Foisting it on other games (e.g. D&D) is...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I read mostly non-fiction stuff. One book that I re-read every year is The Turk: The Life and Times of the Famous Eighteenth-century Chess-playing Machine. It's a lot of fun. Right now I'm working my way through the Shadows horror anthology books.

OSR Has anyone run Ptolus in an OSR system? If so, how did it work out?

Oh, I've not ported Ptolus specifically to S&W, but I have ported other 5e content to S&W and it's really very easy.

OSR Has anyone run Ptolus in an OSR system? If so, how did it work out?

There is a 5e version of Ptolus now and it'll be much easier to trim that down to work with an OSR system, rather than trying to do the same with the 3.5 edition (IMO).

D&D General What would your "fourth core rulebook" be?

Palladium RPG Book 2: Old Ones. Yes, I know that it's not a D&D book by design, but it's chock full of great city, town, village and fort maps and write-ups that can be easily dropped into any fantasy RPG with very little work (including D&D). It has long been one of the best books in my DM's...

Novels and short stories like unusual RPGs

Exterminator! is a short fiction collection. I think I ordered my physical copy through Barnes and Noble.

D&D General What's your second favorite edition of D&D?

    BECMI (Rules Cyclopedia).

The ORC License and Publisher Restrictions

Chaosium has fumbled every open license they've offered by trying to place very strict limitations on it. One would think by reading their various licenses that they don't understand the concept of an open license at all. This was certainly the case with their earlier attempt at an open license...

    The Castle is Alive

I forget which Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser collection it's in, but one of them contains a story about a living (and very murderous) castle.

D&D 5E (2024) My preferred way of playing D&D 2024 is... miniatures or not?

Not, but mainly because I'm poor and even a modest counter collection with any real degree of variation costs a not small amount of money these days. This is the one thing that certain VTTs have gotten right over the last few years.
