D&D 5E (2024) What is the 2024 Bard Power Source?

Nah, that's the powersource wielded by the Pungeon Master!

D&D 5E (2024) What is the 2024 Bard Power Source?

Power Source is a think in the lore; Crawford discusses Arcane / Divine / Primal magic in the video. Bards have Bardic Magic, which is your own thing. In 5e they've long been a bit sequestered from the 4 "Arcane Casters" who got the Arcane Weapon spells as soon as they were added. Bardic...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

This is like how I wish that Bards could use a Mask as a focus as well – think Griots!

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

Oh, I don't really care about short rest period so much as the non-combat extra healing function. I know from a CharOp perspective the extending of Short Rests from 10 mins to 1 hour is complicated.

Makes me think of CrackerMilk's "Why I Hate Mimes" video. XD

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I think it's pretty clear that per the language in the article, "If there’s a feature we don’t cover, such as Jack of All Trades, that means it remains unchanged or saw minor changes", Bards still are Spells Known casters, unlike Rangers who specifically became Prepare-from-Spell-List casters.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I can run 3 bards at level 20? That's the best capstone in the game! :D EDIT: In all seriousness, I assume you meant minimum of 3 bard spells at 20th.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

If they added swift quiver to the Druid spell list, then you might have it. Alternatively, yeah, this might create space for a bow-bard subclass in the future a la 4E's College of Prescience. Still sad about Song of Rest as I liked the healing built on short rests, and would have liked it to be...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Bard"

I'm so glad that they kept the Arcane/Divine/Primal spell lists in the forms of the Wizard/Cleric/Druid spell lists, since this clearly identifies that Bards are tapping into all 3 of these magical traditions. But more so, I prefer this to selecting one list and then getting all of them at 10 --...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

No, you shouldn't, and I'm sorry that I came off dismissive. It wasn't intentional! You can and should voice your opinions, and you don't have to shut up about it. I think I just disagree on how I'd go about making a martial Ranger. I still have my quibbles with this Ranger too, and I'm very...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

And there's a version in Level Up for you that matches your desires. What are you looking for here? Rallying to get WotC to change the Ranger after they're already set in stone for 2024?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

It's an extra Feat at 6, 10, and 14. And Rogues get an extra Feat at 10. It really does feel like you have a lot of feats when you're getting one nearly every other level, as opposed to every 4 levels (with 19th and 20th being flip flopped at the end). I'm not complaining about Fighters...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

I feel like – given the sheer number of Feats that Fighters get (and too a lesser extent, Rogues) – that all we REALLY need to get to a Spell-less Ranger is enough Ranger-y feats that Fighters and/or Rogues can choose from, and MAYBE another Martial Archetype (though Arcane Archer already can be...

D&D General the elemental planes are trash

I've used this too – where Faerieland and Shadowfell and the Inner Planes and Hell and Heaven and the Ethereal Mists and the Astral Sea are all a single echo world you can "fall" into with different Powers associated with them. In the real world, many cultures consider the line between Faeries...

D&D General the elemental planes are trash

No, though I love that image (big proponent of 4e Cosmology). I'm not talking about the image. I'm saying that in 5e, the Elemental Chaos is described as the place where the 4 Inner Planes meet. If the further you go out, the more hostile and monoelemental the Inner Planes get, the closer to the...

D&D General the elemental planes are trash

What this Map doesn't show is that underneath the Material Plane and its Echoes is the Elemental Chaos, a churning maelstrom of all the elements combining, from which the Material Plane and its Echoes are forged out of the chaotic admixture.

D&D General the elemental planes are trash

I like to use the Elemental Chaos and make it a sort of "Quantum Realm" microscale chaotic building blocks of reality, to contrast with Wildspace and the Astral Sea as the macroscale what happens as you scale up. The idea of an Elemental Chaos Echo is interesting, though. I'd probably also...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Ranger"

Ranger has used druidic magic since the get-go, though. It's not about stopping trying to give every class spell options as trying to show Rangers off as having spells, martial weapons masteries and fighting styles, and roguish expertise and skill usage. A lot of these ointment and poultices...
