How would you continue the design of the individual themes?

Any fun thoughts or is everybody out of ideas? :p -YRUSirius

I want to see one book

Who says that the 3 book model is the best decision business wise? This is a big buy-in for DMs in my opinion. Big buy-in for the DMs isn't necessarily the best advice if you wanna spread it out to casuals (blue ocean strategy and all that jazz). -YRUSirius

    Awfully Alarmed About Armour

Too complex. Just too complex. Keep it dead simple. This is D&D. -YRUSirius

    Awfully Alarmed About Armour

Why all that 'complex' stuff like adding DR, extra HP, -1 attacks etc on heavy armor? Why not just bump the AC by +1 or +2? I don't get it. -YRUSirius

    The Dodge Action is Amazing

That's what I call an effective defender. He could also defend the wizard or the rogue. You don't need opportunity attacks. The guardian of the group should not always have to stand in the front line, he might be better off staying with the artillery, or the artillery could be at the front with...

D&D 5E (2014) Poll on the Reaper: is damage on missed melee attack roll believable and balanced?

    Per-Encounter Powers

Not if those 4 characters only have 1 or two 'rest' features (the powers that shall not be named). What if those 'rest' features aren't as strong as their 4E counterparts? What if they are highly conditional and can't be executed every encounter (needs a crit, needs a hit, needs an enemy to...

How would you continue the design of the individual themes?

The slayer 3rd feat - Charge: As an action the slayer can move his speed in one straight line and make a melee attack. On a hit he causes 1d6 additional damage. The slayer then grants advantage until his next turn. 4th feat - Brutal Critical Hit: A slayer causes +1d10 addtional damage on a...

    Per-Encounter Powers

I do not see a problem if some classes would have one or two features that would recharge after a rest. Take the fighter's surge for example. The halfling's luck or the rogue's trick feature for example. Or even the cleric's channel divinity feature. Their base power would be a 'little bit'...

    Ranger Design Goals

Did you read the blog? He said that Rangers will NOT have fighting styles due to their CLASS. Themes alone will handle this. So you could have a ranger with a two-handed sword with a slayer theme or a ranger with a swashbuckler theme specialized on the rapier, or a ranger with a spear-fighting...

How would you continue the design of the individual themes?

For examle: The Magic-User theme gives access to two wizard minor spells at 1st level. The character gets a familiar at 3rd level. He might get an additional 1st level spell at 5th level and an additional 2nd level spell at level 7 and finally an additional 3rd level spell at level 9. So, a...

How would you continue the design of the individual themes?

I know that we'll get rules for the higher levels in the future playtest packet pretty soon, but I just can't wait, so I'd like to speculate about later feats in the themes. With the mechanics that we got from the themes that had been given to us (slayer, guardian, lurker, healer, magic-user)...

D&D 5E (2014) Ed Greenwood to write 5E's Forgotten Realms

Yeah, I'd like some kind of reboot with some new stuff integrated from the start. But with a very classic feel. Back to the roots! Just keep most of the powerful NPCs behind the curtain. I'm wondering if the new Ed Greenwook Presents Forgotten Realms will be truly Edition neutral or if it get's...

I want to see one book

Hehe. Yeah, gimme Basic D&D (level 1-10) and Advanced D&D (11-20). And maybe Complete D&D (level 1-20) and Epic D&D (21+). Each of those would be a player's handbook. The same could be done for the DM's guide with an integrated Monster Manual. Why should the DM have to buy 2-3 books (pretty...

I want to see one book

I'd like to see one book for the basic game that might span 10 levels. Then release a book for higher level play (level 1-20). Newbies and casuals rarely play beyond level 10. Pro players could buy another book for the additional levels. This would kinda resemble a broader BECMI edition (only...

Best way to handle A LOT of opponents with advantage?

How would you handle a ton of opponents (like more than 10) with advantage on attack rolls? Ten opponents with advantage means effectively rolling 20d20. 20 kobolds outnumbering the PCs could mean rolling 40d20s. Move them as one mob unit, then roll all d20s and then count the successes until...
