    Determining a Squishy CR

When I examine non-magical creatures for CR purposes (up to about CR10), I pit them against a well built Fighter of equal level for five fights. A defensively built, level 3 Fighter could take this opponent down probably 1 out of 5 fights. At that point, he doesn't have the AC or the HP to take...

    Sorcerer/Bard bonus spells for buffs?

Lets assume they do get new bonus spell slots. What does that really mean? What does it mean in the context of the game day? Slapping on an X of Charisma +2 means most Bards and Sorcs pick up an extra spell slot. Can they equip and unequip it at will to get unlimited spells per day? The...

D&D 3.x [3.5] Can you add class levels to all monsters?

Mindless undead cannot gain class levels (as per the "Mindless" quality), but just about everything with an Intelligence score can be given class levels.

    Monster playable race

While I don't care for Savage Species myself, as far as I'm aware it is the only place that gives guidelines for conversion from monster to PC. Poor ones, in terms of determining LA, but guidelines nonetheless.

What if everyone was a monk?

I was with you until you removed any possible variety from the monk class. We all know there is more than one kind of Martial Art in the world, and more than one sect of monk. We remove such flavorful and mundane monk variants as the Drunken Master, the Thug, or the Henshin Mystic? What about...

Need help with a dispute re: Druids and shared spells

Side A, and I'd cite exactly the lines jefgorbach just cited.

    D&D 3.x (3.5) Spell Failure Conundrum

Quite exactly what Dandu said. The same reason Rogues and Barbarians don't get Heavy Armor Proficiency, they just aren't trained to do so. Warmages and Bards are trained to use their spells while armored. Wizards and Sorcerers are not.

    Do you roll NPC/Monster stats?

Drowbane I don't like every character to feel the same, and "random" rolls seem to be a good way of accomplishing that without sacrificing character builds. I've even used the video-game style character generation, where you roll your stats, subtract them all to minimums, and build upward from...

    Do you roll NPC/Monster stats?

I still enjoy a little randomness in my PC generation. Seems the point buy system is always the same stats, every time. I don't like that. D&D Next's current playtest has character generation Roll 4 Drop Lowest, or 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 (with mention that the DM can have any method he wants to...

D&D 3.x (3.5) What can you command undead to do?

Celebrim Especially when we're talking about the most frequent undead controlled - Skeletons or Zombies. Zombies can't take more than a standard action, which throws a spoke in the wheel of "complex tasks".

D&D 3.x (3.5) What can you command undead to do?

Oh, yes. They are a little different. It appears the Command portion of Rebuke Undead works via mental control, and it takes a standard action to Command any Commanded Undead. The wording suggests you can Command every Undead you control with one mental command, assuming it's the same command.

There you go. Both questions answered.

    Item of Infinite Magic Missiles?

Honestly, Magic Missile is one of those infinite use items that wouldn't matter too much. You could use the DMG item creation guide for it.

    Do you roll NPC/Monster stats?

I arbitrarily assign stats within a standard deviation depending on CR and creature type. For a typical, level 1 Orc, I might give him 2 str higher than the average and a greatsword instead of a falchion. He'll probably wear chain mail, too. Other Orcs in his group will recognize him as the...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 DnD Rogue discussion

I thought EXP penalty applies only to base classes, and not PrCs. All of those PrCs are in Complete Scoundrel.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 DnD Rogue discussion

You might dip Bard and then Arcane Trickster, or maybe Fortune's Friend or Uncanny Trickster? Nymphs Kiss is great. -Fey creatures regard you as though you were fey. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus on all Charisma-related checks, and a +1 bonus on all saving throws against spells and...

This character sounds like a Chameleon/Master of Masks.

    Hit Dice

I think it is probably because people like rolling bigger die and dealing more damage. It's fun to see how high you can get the number. However, it wouldn't make a lot of wizards happy for a good crit by a level 1 Fighter to be able to kill them.

    Forgotten Realms: BBE Serpent God?

There sure are. The Serpent Kingdoms is part of the Forgotten Realms, so all the wonderful aspects of the World Serpent are at your disposal. For a Greater Gods, you have Shekinester, worshiped primarily by lizardfolk and khaastas. Your Intermediary Gods are the imprisoned Sseth and the aspect...
