Storm of Blades + Planeshaper + Epic Resurgence

I had a player pull of the following combos, and I'm trying to find out if I'm missing anything illegal 1) War Chanter uses action point giving all PCs +7 hit / dmg 2) Warden with Barb MC uses Storm of Blades with a reckless weapon +5. For merely a -2 AC penalty he gets 8 attacks with an...

Eberron PrCs -> Paragon Paths, initial concepts

I don't know if Warlock fits the theme of Silver Pyromancer, that said there aren't enough "Fire" powers in Invoker to make a Silver Pyromancer PP quite general enough. Hrmmm.

    Fighter Multiclass

That's why there is that paragon tier feat that increases the mark penalty to -3

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

I really think minion over valuation is a major issue in 4ed. I think the designers at first were like "AWESOME!" but the reality is they don't pose enough of a threat to be more than sacks of XP. I'm investigating doing the following: Heroic minions count as 1/2 their XP value Paragon Minions...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

    Wouldn't it be Basic Melee Attack = (50% * 9.5) + (5% * 13) = 5.4 Sure Strike = (60% * 5.5) + (5% * 9) = 3.75 Still comparable differential. I think Sure Strike and Careful Attack really show that the designers of 4ed over valued minions. I frankly find minions aren't worth the XP budget...

Eberron PrCs -> Paragon Paths, initial concepts

With the upcoming release of Eberron for 4ed, I'm going back over my Eberron books and looking at the PrCs I liked and trying to think how I would convert them to Paragon Paths. I figured I'd start with the Thranish themed ones: Silver Pyromancer Exorcist of the Silver Flame Silver...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

This, IMO, is a problem and I think we should lean on WotC to provide the best product possible.

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Also, this isn't strictly about Sure Strike / Careful Attack. It's about what is WotC's maintenance plan. While I *agree* they have put out more optimal powers for the martial classes, my whole argument is that more powers that are optimal is not an appropriate maintenance plan. So how about I...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

I'm not sure DEX works for both classes, but that's one suggestion I thought of. Use the tertiary stat for the class, and add it's bonus to the attack role. Though I'm not quite sure it works though. Feels too simple and not quite right. Also I'd like to point out to Gradine that sub-optimal...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Um, both players and monsters only get 1 immediate action on their "off" turn.

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Perhaps there is a miscommunication, when I say basic attacks I mean melee: str vs AC, 1[w] +STR ranged :dex vs AC, 1[w] + DEX My ranger player will always use Twin Strike over a basic ranged melee, my fighter player will always use brash strike over a basic melee attack. The only time they...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Well, there we go. That makes the power exceedingly more useful! That said it might step on the toes of heavy blade opportunist for OAs, unless you don't allow OAs to use the Sure Strike / Careful Attack route. In which case that tweaking become less beneficial due to the fact that my players...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

I disagree fundamentally with this point. Every choice should be equally optimal situationally dependent. Each power choice is an opportunity cost where you COULD be taking another power. With sure strike / careful attack, there is NO reason for a fighter to take it. At the basic math level a...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

    - suboptimal is still something that needs to be fixed - I see the point about VA - I think the Wiz's At Wills need to not be suboptimal, especially as the principal controller in the first book

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

I mostly used it as past precedent that Wizards have gone back and changed things. One of the things we were told upon 4ed launch was "more regular erratta", yet some blinding issues haven't been errata'd, just simply ignored. Sure Strike Careful Attack Wizard's At Wills Veteran's Armor

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Ok, the WoW analogy was invalid, apologies. Still, I think my point is valid. I think the PHB 1 should be updated, alone as it stands, such that it's the best PHB1 it can be. I point to the 3.5 overhaul of "polymorph" as an example of Wizard's history of retroactively fixing things. (Also...

    D&D 4E Pre PHB2: Are we happy with WotC's maintenance of 4ED

Firstly I'm a huge 4ED fan, but the one thing that I'm concerned over is retroactive maintenance of existing material. Take "Veteran's Armor" for example. The official line was it was determined to be broken, but the group that determines if it was broken or not is not the group that could fix...

How to make the Warlord more Roguish?

So my first pass is as follows: Urban Warlord 1) change +1 Will to +1 Ref (since either presence keys off of WIS/CHA) 2) Skill list is now: Bluff Diplomacy Insight Intimidate Perception Streetwise 3) All Warlord powers using STR to determine the attack now use WIS. 4) Insightful...

How to make the Warlord more Roguish?

I guess by more roguish I mean more like 3/4ed rogues, yes. It stems from a character I had in 3.5, a bard but built to be a bit more tactical. Once 4ed details came out I was hoping to reskin him to Warlord, but the reliance on STR for all the to hit powers didn't mesh with the character...
