    Armour Class Variant

Dandu - in defense of the sorcerer, the player is a 16 year old girl (the daughter of another player) and she's still learning the ropes. She's playing the sorcerer as a pyromaniac, and her first reaction in any battle is usually to try and set something on fire. Sometimes it works, sometimes...

Hodge Podge Gaming or You Got Your Chocolate in My Peanut Butter

Wow. The way you've described it above really confuses me now. :erm: Having said that, it may work, but it would have to be worded very carefully so that it is 1) easy to follow and 2) conveys the complexity without breaking it or invalidating (1). I would be interested in reading through a...

    Armour Class Variant

Recently, one of my players suggested adopting the 4ED rule of increasing natural armour class based on level (base 10 +1/2 level). He feels that monsters above CR5 or so have so many pluses to hit that they never miss the players. My counter was several points: 1) The party has to option to...

Hodge Podge Gaming or You Got Your Chocolate in My Peanut Butter

Seems overly complicated to me, and an amazing amount of work for the DM. Player's have it a bit easier, as they only have to memorize for their specific class. Either way, a lot of different math to track. But, if you can get it to work, more power to you! :)

    Fun PC Concepts

My most recent character was a riff on a stereotype. Dwarf Barbarian with 5 Intelligence but a 12 Wisdom. He was brash. He never lost a fight. The ones where he was knocked out don't count because he didn't remember them. He was very quickly left out of any negotiations/important conversations...

    Dice Superstition

Just today I was cursed soundly by my players for dice rolls. The party had poisoned a well in a small town (they are playing Evil this campaign). They waited a few days and then went to loot the town. I decided that the process had resulted in a Plague Spewer (MM3 3.5 ED) being created. It...

    Casting Multiple Spells

Okay, thanks. I thought that was the way, but for some reason we were thinking otherwise. Obviously a lack of caffeine today! :D

    Casting Multiple Spells

After years of playing 3ED, the question was brought forward today in the group. During combat, a character can perform 2 standard actions or 1 full round action. If a spell has a casting time of 1 Standard Action (or less), can a spell caster cast 2 spells in a round (assuming nothing more...

    My collection of TSR products...

Personally, I found the Complete Thief's book to be indispensable, but I love playing thieves, so I'm a bit biased on that one. I also collected almost everything put out for Al Qadim. My group has never wanted to play in that setting, but I always found it intriguing. Even now, I occasionally...

You remember the name of the BBEG being "Bargle".

IMPORTANT! Should EN World continue reporting RPG news?

For what its worth, I read it every day. I don't post much in the forums, and I don't play 4ED D&D, but I still check it every day (and am actually a bit disappointed if it goes 4-5 days without an update!). I never read the newsletter email. Mainly because the email I registered with is a...

    Players Surprising GM...

I surprised the GM at a Convention once. It was AD&D 2E, not M&M, but was a fun surprise nonetheless. The 2E module was written for the Con, and the players were a mixed bag of Drow Overseers, Lackeys and slaves. The story was that an uprising occurred and this small group was trying to escape...

    The tragedy of dice collecting

My aunt used to have those dice as well. I was about 8 when I discovered them behind her basement bar (this would have been about 1980, or so). She was rather red-faced when I brought them up from the basement and asked her what they were for!

    The tragedy of dice collecting

I used to collect them. I worked for a local game store about 20 years ago, and would frequently purchase new sets that I found to my liking. After that store closed down, I slowed down my purchases. I found that I would use 2-3 "lucky" sets during gaming, and would eventually lose one of those...

    Foray into Hell

There is a 2nd edition adventure called A Paladin in Hell. That might give you a bit of good information, or at least help frame an adventure. In addition, Paizo's last Adventure Path in Dungeon Magazine was into the Abyss. Again, some interesting information (demons, not devils, obviously, but...

    Most Broken Legal Character

I'm hoping someone can help me, as my google-fu is very weak. I remember seeing a link to a really broken, legit character that was a kobold godslayer, or something silly. It was created as part of a contest or something to show just how crazy some builds could be. But I can't find it anymore...

Players that dont fit in a group

I had a similar problem with an adult member of my group and his teenaged son. I talked to him out of game and requested he let his son make his own decisions and mistakes. It is the only way he'll learn. In game, if the idea was truly silly, I corrected the boy gently. If the father stepped...

    3.X Gamers?

My group never transitioned away from 3.5. 4ed did not appeal to us. Edit: We have played a bit of D20 Modern (Wizards of the Coast), and when I DM, I pull my ideas from whatever modules have a good storyline. I've used 1st Ed, 2nd Ed, 3ed and 3pp modules for inspiration/guidance. Recently I...
