Actually, I don't think that's true. Kensei/Kensai are both phonetic spelling of asian words for which there are symbols, rather than letters. Consequently, either spelling is correct.

I have to admit. . . I do prefer the green dragon PHB cover. . . despite the lack of slutty pornstar makeup. That cover for me really gets back to the essence of D&D, the new one doesn't.

I'd suggest that if you want to create a balanced race, you should wait until the PHB is out and we can see the big picture on races. Until that happens, there really isn't a good way to balance it.

Its just another way of saying the DM sometimes needs to operate outside the rules for the sake of the story. Some people hate that idea, others don't. Personally, I'm in favor of whatever makes the game the most fun.
