Is heavy armour still the Cinderella?

Let's hope heavy armor has a renaissance in 4E. Heavy armor is cool. . . its past time it got rules to match! :)

    Alright already!!!

LOL! Somebody else took exception to that comment and got in faster than I did.

    Alright already!!!

Actually, the Black Company series by Glen Cook features wizards that can sit there and cast the same spell over and over again for hours on end as well as throw some really big shots in occasionally to mix it up. For example, the assault on the Black Castle outiside Juniper. From a...

    Alright already!!!

Doing the same attack every round is exactly what fighters did in practice in 3E. They only manuevered as necessary to engage the enemy. . . from there on it was full attack action every round with pre-calculated power attack numbers and so forth. At some point during each full attack you took...

    D&D 3.x Will you still play 3.5?

I'm done with 3.5. I'm forcing myself to play bi-weekly currently just because my wife is running the game and she'd be sad if I didn't play. After we switch though, I'm selling my (extensive) 3.5 library for whatever I can get for it. 4E will be my game of choice, or I'll just get out of...

    D&D 4E manual of the planes 4e

Hooray for the Astral Dreadnought! I always loved the cover of the 1E MotP. The stats they gave it never really did it justice though. Maybe in 4th it will finally get its due!

    Behold the Mighty Frost Giant!

I like the stomp, although I think I liked the stomp knocking people prone better than the breath weapon. I'd see a Frost Giant as more of an elite than a soldier.

    Alright already!!!

Apparently some people don't understand how the new rules shape actions in combat, so I'm going to explain it to them. . . I keep seeing the complaints about "the fighter is just going to use his -at will- power all the time once his per day/per enc abilities are gone." Let's take a step back...

    D&D 4E 4E "Return to" adventures

Updated versions of the original Against the Giants and Keep on the Borderlands adventures would be cool. (As opposed to sequels.)

    D&D 4E Why Keep a Grid? Measurement in 4E

I play a lot of miniatures wargames. 40k, Fantasy, Warlord, etc. But a good example for this discussion would be Victory at Sea vs. Grand Fleets. Both games are fun, big gun battleship miniatures games. Victory at Sea is played on an open tabletop, while Grand Fleets is played on a hex grid...

    Behold the Mighty Frost Giant!

Maybe combine the stomp knocking people prone idea and the cold burst to be worthy of a standard action and give it a recharge?

    D&D 4E Our first playtest of 4E

Slither of Iron! Not quite as impressive. . .

Analysis of Initial release of PCs

Based on what we've seen. . . starting hit points for a character are equal to 2.5x their per-level hit points. . . rounded down as normal. Hence my numbers. . . Personally, I'd like to see massive hit points be one of the barbarian's schticks. . . I was just commenting to someone the other...

    After some thought...

I think that is deliberate. If their intent is to issue a new volume of the PHB every year with additional classes in it, then all the classes are going to have to be more narrowly defined to avoid too much overlap. The 3.x classes are such generalists that it made coming up with really unique...

    Really Really Bloodied ?

If you want steadily decreasing stats as you take damage, I would suggest you give Warlord a try. Its a really fun fantasy skirmish game that features declining stats. It would be kinda hard on the PCs if you tried to use it in a roleplaying game though. . . tends to be pretty deadly! :)

    Rethinking Reflex and AC...

The heavy armor wearer doesn't WANT to put his stats into dex/int. The point of the heavy armor is to give you a good AC, while freeing up your stat points for "more important" things like Strength or Constitution. As it stands, if stat generation is point buy. . . my fighters are going to...

Analysis of Initial release of PCs

Based on the rogue class, we can surmise the hit points gained per level for each class based on the starting hit points given here. They are: Wizard: 4hp/level Warlock/Ranger/Cleric/Rogue: 5hp/level Fighter/Paladin: 6hp/level That's a very narrow spread between fighter and wizard hit points...

Higher resolution PHB pic on Amazon

This would make a MUCH better cover for the PH IMO. Of course I like heavily armored chicks too. . . and armored chicks with gaping holes in the mail that show off their cleavage also. . . so see. . . I'm not picky at all! ;)

    Yes! "Turns" are back!!

Wow. . . you work a lot harder than I do! LOL!! :)

D&D 4E Looks like 4e's combat is closer, and I LIKE it!!

If arrows travel at 300fps, then yes it is possible to dodge them at distances greater than 40 yards or so. I was dodging paintballs at that range moving at 300fps last weekend. Granted, you have to see the shooter and be ready to move. . . and even then you're frequently not fast enough, but...
