    Creepy...

Mindflayers absolutely is the hands down winner for pure scariness. Everything about them is scary and nightmarish.

    Interesting blogs?

Actually, I don't think it's boring at all - of course, I agree with a lot of stuff of that you've written in your blog, so that may have something to do with it. :D BTW, I'm an INFP. :)

    Interesting blogs?

I have two. Neither have been updated recently: http://www.livejournal.com/users/eris404/ - this one is just random stuff and would be much better if I actually had a theme or something. http://eris404.blogspot.com/ - this one has a short story I wrote and an ongoing review/discussion of...

So what do/did you study in college? Did you bother with college?

My first degree is in Film. I am in a masters program for information systems, though I'm really tempted to change to digital cinema.

    What level to start at....

That is an excellent point. I have two races in my campaign that have a level adjustment of 1. So, I would have to start them at least at 2nd level, should any player want to play those races.

    What level to start at....

Great replies! I do like the idea of starting them at 1st level but advancing them quickly (one level per session) - it's sort of like role-playing out the backstory for the characters, having them meet as young people, becoming friends and getting into trouble, etc. This could be really neat...

    Question about making minor items

I love items like that, simply because if magic existed in the real world, that's the sort of thing people would make. Well, actually, I needed to understand how it worked by the rules because I'm writing some NPCs that I might post on my web site and I wanted them to be accurate. This was...

    What level to start at....

Hey all, I will be starting a new D&D campaign, soon I hope, with five players. Two of the players are very casual gamers, two are newer-ish players, and one has been gaming for a several years. The newerish players have a good grasp on the rules already, however. I haven't run a game in a...

    Creepy...

I know this thread is more horror-related, but I was thinking of past creepy NPCs that we've encountered. Sometime just encountering an obvious slimeball is enough to creep me out. A good example was in last night's game. KidCharlemagne has an NPC named Red who we started to refer to as "Ron...

    Question about making minor items

Ah, so 0 level spells count as 0.5 - it's funny, I couldn't find that. But sometimes I have a hard time finding things in the SRD anyway. That sounds much more reasonable. Thanks!

    Question about making minor items

Hello all, After reading through the SRD I got a little confused about some of the item creation rules, specifically about the item cost. Allow me to give you an example. Let's say a wizard has a niece who hates brussel sprouts. He decides to make a special item for her, say a napkin that once...

    Stupid, Stupid Question

I don't own the Eberron setting and I was wondering what a dragonshard is. I keep seeing them mentioned in different places (most recently in an adventure in Dungeon), but not with an explanation. I looked on the WotC web site and also googled it, but searching just gave me headache (especially...

    Creepy...

OK, Auld Grump, I read the other scenario (Aldlyke Cemetery) from Dungeon Crafter and I really like that one, too. It fits perfectly with another part of an adventure I've written and would make an excellent side trek. Thanks for pointing out the site and for writing nightmarish, nasty, creepy...

    Creepy...

OK, another fawning post - this is really, really good. And considering my next D&D game is set in Victorian England... I'm going to use this. I'll let you know what my players think.

DMs only: Do you actually track numbers behind your screen?

I do, partly because I really enjoy using the mechanics - I really love coming up with neat class or feat combos, etc. I also like trying rules that don't get used often in our group (like counterspelling, for example) and build a special NPC to do that. I even do this for generic mooks by...

    The "Gandalf" in your campaign

In my last two campaigns: In the Victoria campaign, Dr. Livingston, the kindly and wealthy old adventurer who the patron of the party (and who turned out to be a gold dragon) In a Star Wars campaign, there was a curmudgeonly jedi living in an ancient temple; she decided the jedi in the party...

    Celebrity cameos

I have run a similar setting - D&D in Victorian England - so yeah, famous real world and literary person pop up from time to time. I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but both John Dee and Benjamin Franklin are still alive and kicking (or perhaps undead and kicking, no one knows for...

Which Should I Buy and Why?

I went with Lords of Madness, because, well, it's what I'd pick up - I don't have it yet. :p Seriously though, I do have CA and I generally like it, there's a lot of good stuff in it, but I think Lords of Madness just looks more interesting and fun. Of course, there's always the question...
