What do you mean by basic class? Are players limited to classes in the PHB or do you mean you won't have psionics or sword magic in the game (but arcane, divine and mundane classes are ok)?

Maybe the cleric will be a spontaneous "Vancian" caster like the 3e sorcerer. The numbers then are just about how many favors they can ask for per day and how big those favors are. I am hoping that the Warlock and the Sorcerer are not Vancian.

I am cautiously optimistic about a revised Vancian system with fewer spells per day, a more limited spell list, and rituals to cover the really impressive stuff.
