The armies of light and darkness have met for the ultimate battle right outside the (good) imperial city. the battle raged for days and just minutes ago Lord Mirrador and the Witch King met in single combat all the close retainers soon joined in and the both arnmires clashed in meer moments the...

    Ethics of Killing POWs

agreed, incapacitiating him was adequate to neutralize any threat he may have posed druing the ensuing fight. Are eldritch blasts noisy? If so the warlock is a detriment to the party if everyone was trying to hide.

It Starts (Splatbooks - Martial Power in October)

I could imagine Swordmage, Barbarian and Monk all as Martial Power Classes.

Realism, Heroism, and Abstract Hit Points

RPGs are bad at how and when the moment of death follows the wounding. In real life it can take seconds, minutes or years to die from a wound. What one does and can do between the wounding and death varies greatly. I know a gentleman who was at D-Day and wounded pretty early on by a machine...

Natural Healing: How long does it take to "heal" luck and skill?

CON is included in "every other stat"

    D&D 4E 4E: DM-proofing the game

Seems to me a tier system leaves a DM with a wider range of options then slavish adherence to CR would. A tier is a 10 level spread looks like there is much more room for the DM there.

    Gold or Silver Standard?

many people are working with the assumption the prices would go from gold to silver in name so it would be 150 sp for that horse if the game used a silver standard. That way a fortune in gold IS a fortune in gold.

    Abstract HP

-24 hp is squashed flat (or the equivalent of -24 hp). mr .Hundred Hp doesn't have a tougher skull (assuming he staretd out as a normal person) the rock is still going to splatetr it into pulp just aas easily if he doesn't have somethigbn protectinghim... like the gods, luck, rolling with the blow

    Abstract HP

a boulder falls on a charactetr with 100 hp inflictign 35 points of damage, the charcter survives and can continue on. A boulder falls on a charcetr with 9 hp inflicitng 35 points of damage the character is squashed flat and dies. The 100 hp character didn't not get squished like Wil E...

    Abstract HP

It includes divine favor(or attention) also it isn't just the charcters own trained capacities.

    Abstract HP

Getting stabbed is HP damage usually isn't it? If hp aren't abstract then a 200 hp character would seldom have to worry about the hold person spell as a foe would drop from exhuastion as they whittled away at the 200hp and woudl likely have to deal with mr 200 hp's friends before long. But...

    Abstract HP

that is one way peopel do in fact play the game ; I find it tasteless in genral but it is a way the game can be played. But that isn't what I meant earlier I meant it isn't the cleric that decides or controls 'how much impact' but the divine forces themsleves and that is why there is an odd...

    Abstract HP

Which puts HP into the ball park of Abstract and not always actual physical damage.

    Abstract HP

Not if he makes his save. but the impact of that damage is far less signifigant. 10 pts of damage is 111% of 9 where as it is 10% of 100. There is a decidely different experience for the 100hp character as compared to the 9 hp character. I'd say the 8th level character already burnt up a lot...

    Abstract HP

Except for the pesky little bit in the rules (which were in 1st AD&D also) wherein anyone could kill you shoulld they render you helpelss or discover you in a helpelss condition. 3e added a complicated coup-de-grace rule but in 1st you get wrestled to the ground and pinned down...you're dead...

Natural Healing: How long does it take to "heal" luck and skill?

If healing is tied to level it automatically takes into consideration ones luck, skill, INT, CHA and every other stat; without them one wouldn't be the level they are.

    Abstract HP

Once in a LARP tossed a javelin at someone, they dodged and bashed their head into a cabin wall, my attack was a success but my javelin didn't inflict any damage. Somone with 9 hp is a goner where as somone with 100 hp is going to survive, this means tough guys can take the punishment because...

He will not survive reentry...he'll suffocate first. ;-) (oh crud someone else already pointed this out)

    LIfe Without Alignment

There have been dozens (hundreds?) of RPGs with "Alignment" in one form or another if it is called honor, morality, empathy, corruption, lightside/darkside points, personality traits it all works out to some sort of game mechnaic to aid a player in fitting the charcater and his actions into the...
