June - What are you reading?

I'm finishing up on "America: The Last Best Hope pt 2" which is an amazing look at US history from WWII to the Reagan years (right now I'm at the mid '70s). Next I'll be reading "Battlespace" by Ian Douglas, the continuation of a series that I was reading a few years ago (but never finished for...

Would you use the same setting for your next campaign?

Since 3rd came out all my campaigns have taken place in the same campaign world. Only one campaing was a "next generation" style campaing though... actual each campaign seems to be going further and further back in time...

How do you like your elves best?

Elves IMC are arrogant and decedant, so secure in their power that they do not realize how much the world has changed since their civilization was at its peak. They are also stagnant, only able to hold onto what they have through their magical power and mercenary/slave armies.

    Why do you read OotS?

    All of the above.

    How Setting Faithful are You?

For the last 8 years I've run several campaigns, all set in the same world.

Do You Run Multiple Campaigns in the Same Setting?

All my campaigns have taken place in the same campaign world, and often actions in one campaing have had an impact on the other campaings. The only exception was a Far East game I ran, though it did take place on the same world it was only loosely tied to my other campaings.

Do ogres look more like shrek..orcs like LotR?

For me my Orcs look like those from Warcraft, while my Ogres usualy follow those in the MM (though a bit more muscular). I've also re-imaged my hill giants along the lines of the Gronn (from World of Warcraft). I'm not quite sure why... but the first time I saw one it screamed Hill Giant to me.

D&D and the Cthulhu mythos: Adventure ideas?

This thread is one of the best ever... Some ideas of mine... Poison Gold: A failing gold mine is suddenly revitalized... but disturbing things seem to follow where ever the gold goes. The truth is that the sudden influx of gold comes from a temple the miners found far beneath the earth...

    [May] What are you reading?

so far, I've read Lunar Marine (heritage trilogy) and Dune (the original). Now I've started Europa Strike (heritage trilogy) and just picked up "Mastering Technical Mathematics" to help polish up my skills (its been a while since I did calculus)

    Rate Spider-Man 3

I enjoyed it, though it did seem to drag at some parts (more like they were trying to strech it out rather then tighten it up). Though there were some wierd elements (like the random Alfred) I still felt it deserved an 8

    [Games Workshop] Another Price Raise!?

I have greatly enjoyed the GW line of games. I've been a fan of WH and WH40K for almost 10 years now, and the only thing that stops me from indulging in my hobby is the COST. I've got several armies I've been working on over the years, and I'd love to flesh them out... but the cost is very...

    Familiars, Useful?

Familiars can be useful, but they are also exceptionaly vulnerable at mid to high level. More then once I've seen a familiar pasted in the first few rounds of comabt as a way to injure a wizard, so I usualy avoid them.

    "Progress" in your setting

Sure progress occurs, but it is not a linear process. As kingdoms rise and fall knowledge is gained, then lost, then gained again. Both the elves and the dwarves have gone far, mixing sorcery and technology together in ways now unimaginable. Yet the wars they waged shattered their leaving...

    Gods and Pantheons

The gods themselves are very distant powers IMC, but their followers are very active in the mortal realms.

Limits of morality in the game?

I've made use of such elements in the past, though I dont make it central to the adventure.

Would you roll the d4 if...

I'd roll it, though with that chart I'd not risk it as a wizard (starting without a spellbook is not the same as starting without a weapon). I might have to use this in my next campaign... though with some changes to the charts.

    D&D and the MMORPG

In WoW (and other MMORPGs) there are positions in a party that are independent of the classes. To understand these positions you need understand 'agro' or aggression. It is how a creature determines what it attacks. Characters generate agro by by dealing damage, healing. The more damage or...

    Grindhouse

Just came back from it... and it was awsome. Planet Terror was the best of the two, very over-the-top. Insane action and zombie slaying Deathproof was good, but probably wouldn't stand on its own. As was said above, its very much a Q-T movie. There were also "previews" for other movies...

    Truly "secret" languages?

Draconic is broken into two languages... High and Low Draconic. High Draconic is the language of the dragons themselves, is closely related to Elemental, and cannot be spoke by mortals. Low Draconic was a gift to loyal races by their Draconic masters untold thousands of years ago. Elemental...
