D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

I see your point, and it is valid. Most of the time, however, you can handle these things with either page 42, or the monster creation rules on-the-fly. If they suddenly punch someone you didn't think they'd punch, take 10 seconds to flip to the appropriate page, and have them do their thing...

    Plz advise: shuriken-focused character

I'm not sure if it stacks, but taking the entry multiclass into Ranger and then the Avalanche Hurler PP in Martial Power will increase thrown weapons by one die catagory, so that shuriken could potentially turn into a d8. They also have some other fun tricks. Jay

D&D 4E How do I create an NPC Locksmith in 4e?

My opinion differs slightly from the above, in that if you are making an NPC locksmith to pick a lock (makes sense, right) then his ability to pick locks should hinge on plot, not random chance. In other words, without knowing the exact scenario that he will show up in, my view is that he...

    Most underpowered party

That Dwarven Cha Paladin actually looks pretty sweet. I'd play it. Any takers on the rest of that garbage? Jay

    Epic Destiny: Dragon Lord

I was wondering about the stat increases too, but I buy your explanation and I'll go with it. Why not just rename Draconic Resurgence "Bloodied Breath" and remove the daily limit. I'd allow it 1/encounter. The problem with Draconic Apotheosis is that characters likely to take this Epic...

Damaging Allies in Combat - Is it acceptable?

I agree with this, minus the snarky overtones. As I said in my earlier post, some PC's might be more okay with it than others, but if you are planning on throwing out some area affects or zones, give your allies a round or so to plan for it. This goes for beneficial zones, too. Last session...

Weapon + Shield to 2H Weapon?

This is why real life is generally a bad example for gaming rules arguments. "Sounds like" is not good enough, just like "I've done it" is not good enough. It is wise to avoid these whenever possible, as it usually just muddies the issue. Jay

    Multiclassing howto?

Mentat is right: - IF you are 11th level - IF you have taken the right feats - THEN you will see one of the Paragon Path options as Paragon Multiclassing. To retrain your at will after you have chosen that, you need to go to the retraining tab, and scroll down. Under the general...

Damaging Allies in Combat - Is it acceptable?

Too true. Take a breather you guys. As for damaging allies, it helps if you don't think of HP=damage. The warrior caught in the edge of the fireball perhaps didn't sustain an injury, but the wash of heat maybe singed his eyebrows and threw off his honed battle concentration. The woodsman in...

    Race Elimination Round 4!!!

I see someone voted for Kobolds. . .someone who does not like their eyes, apparently. I for one would welcome an article with a few monster race feats. I know this will never happen, since it is explicitly stated that the stats are for DM use, and the full player writeup will need to be...

    D&D 4E 4e Playtest Characters

Yeah. . .this atrocious spammer's persistent Necromancy at least gives me something to do at work on Thanksgiving, but I don't know if I can forgive him for getting my hopes up when I logged in and saw all the shiny new posts! Oh wait, spam. . .jerk. Jay

Spirit Companions (and other Power Effects) outside of combats

Right, any more than the wizard's flaming sphere can watch *his* back. I'm aware of that, but were I playing a Shaman, and I felt I was in danger, I would summon my companion because I'm sure I'd feel safer having it around. This is aside from the fact that it has little mechanical benefit out...

I Want Maps -- Where Do I Get Them

Not 100% related to the OP's question, but I've got some resources I've collected over the years, I might as well post them here: 387 Free D&D Maps | Dungeon Mastering - A lot of good maps collected here http://www.cartographersguild.com/ - I joined just for the ability to get good maps...

Spirit Companions (and other Power Effects) outside of combats

This I don't get. . .do you allow your players to enter combat with weapons drawn? Same thing. A rogue can be cautious, and entering danger with his weapon out, and a shaman can do the same, summoning his spirit to watch his back for ambushes, or whatever he deems appropriate. Jay

    How would you build it?

How do you want him to *be* a champion of death? I think most people are going to see Raven Queen in that description, and that screams a Divine character. Within that realm, you have a few options, the best of which are Paladin, Cleric, and Avenger. It all depends on how you want to approach...

    The Most Under-Powered Race?

Tiefling. With their bonus to int and the racial fire feat, they were great. Now, with strictly better options for wizards and warlocks, I don't think they stand out as the front runner for any class. Plus their horns are huge compared to earlier tieflings, leading to hat issues. Jay

    The Most Underpowered Class?

I haven't seen every class in play, but from what I've seen and read I'd think Shaman or Warlock would be in the top five. Too bad that *power* is only a small part of the equation, making these classes low in this area, but likely high in others. Jay

    Fighter Question

I saw some hint in a Dragon article that Warlords are going to have ranged options, which I feel they could use. As for fighters being ranged, there are some methods, using a Heavy Thrown weapon and ranged basic attack works best, though Multiclassing into a class with ranged options also...

MC: Eyes of the Vestige, Cursing and other Warlock questions

I'm no rules lawyer, but I can see why your DM would be willing to allow this. It is once an encounter, after all, and helps you feel more 'warlock-like' by cursing. Unless, of course, you have unearthed some wicked powerful combo using the vestige pact curse that was, until now, unknown to...
