D&D 5E (2014) Do you want the Sorcerer, Warlock, Psion, and Artificer separate from the Mage class?

Can't add xp, but I'd agree with what steeldragons said whole heartedly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionic Mages?

I wouldn't expect to see it show up until later. Hell, make them part of an "advanced" module if you hate them and don't want them in the basic game. Still, having one extra class with (hopefully) simple mechanics doesn't necessarily go against a simplicity goal. What about the "respect the...

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want the Sorcerer, Warlock, Psion, and Artificer separate from the Mage class?

It might be do-able if you restrict the "mage" spell progression and give the sorcerer and warlock subclasses their extra schtick, while thee wizard ends up getting maybe a few more spell and his specialization boost to compensate for what they get. Still, I'm not sure how artificers would...

D&D 5E (2014) What about warlocks and sorcerers?

I don't see why they couldn't approach mages the same way they did the fighter, with different subclasses changing how you play the class according to preferred playstyle while still leaving room for more non-standard fighting classes outside of the "basic" core 4.

D&D 5E (2014) What about warlocks and sorcerers?

The revolt before was when they said different mechanics would be based on class. Wizard players wanted access to different mechanics. The solution isn't to say mechanics will be based on subclass if it also means that those subclasses are just the different classes we had before. The wizard...

D&D 5E (2014) What about warlocks and sorcerers?

I think they're assuming that this was what people wanted after the warlock/sorcerer complaints. The problem as I see it is they're just assuming they've solved a problem without asking us (yet) if we think it's the right solution. I even think it is a good solution; people want mages with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionic Mages?

But what about the people who don't want psionics to be magic? Is there a way to make them happy along with the people who don't mind psionic magic, or do they just need to accept that they need to play the game a certain way?

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionic Mages?

I agree. It's too soon to start prophesying doomsday over this. Still, with only one playtest package left I am a bit concerned as to how much they'll actually take into consideration. I think the mage subclass system works great for some things, others... not as much.

    D&D 5E (2014) Steel Dragons' 5e Class List Compleat...take 42.

At first glance I have concerns, but I think I could be sold eventually on the sorcerer and warlock since they are all arcane users. And I think you addressed above the concern that all the warrior classes don't need to be shoehorned into fighter. If a psion could be as distinct from a fighter...

D&D 5E (2014) Mage: Wizards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, Artificers, Psions, oh my.

I think he's referring to the same spell progression and scroll and potion creation at set levels. Picking from the same spell list maybe.

    D&D 5E (2014) Steel Dragons' 5e Class List Compleat...take 42.

Sounds well enough if the diversity of classes fits with how fighters/barbarians/palidans/rangers are currently implemented. If there's that much diversity in the "warrior" class then there might be hope for the mage subclasses. I'm not sure that's how it'll break down though. Right now it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionic Mages?

It's even been mentioned that sorcerers might have different spell selections than wizards, so I don't necessarily think the the biggest problem is picking from the same spell list. And I don't even have as much problem with the psion doing what a "command" spell does, but I don't like the psion...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionic Mages?

Not sure we'll see psionics until well after the initial release, so I suppose there's a lot of ways things could change. Still, it seems an odd approach. If they bothered to do some playtesting on the psion do they think there'd be a consensus that throwing it into the mage class would be the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionic Mages?

Mike Mearls ‏@mikemearls23 Aug @Gyor1 @Gweemaran @redcometcasval Psionics will be under the mage. Something like the psychic warrior/battlemind would be a fighter subclass Organizationally I might get it, but the emphasis on class design has been on supporting the story up until this point so...

    D&D 5E (2014) Psionic Mages?

So it was recently mentioned at on twitter that psion will be a subclass of Mage. Does this fit in with the whole idea of "story first?" for classes? Are psionics just a different form of magic or something completely different? I always viewed it as distinct, but I did notice in 3e that...

D&D 5E (2014) What about warlocks and sorcerers?

If you sell me on it I can maybe get behind warlock and sorcerer being folded into the mage class, but psion? Will the psion be pulling from the same spell list? The psion's powers will be called "spells"? Something inside me just squirms at the thought of that.

D&D 5E (2014) 02/08/13 New playtest packet to released today. [Udate: PACKAGE OUT!][

Not sure I'd like race homogenization. I don't think it's something that would fly with a lot of people. I like the two "ability score" increase idea. Maybe +2 to two scores is still overpowered, but +1 to four abilities is better than +1 to all. Also, the ability to have an "arcane archer" or...

D&D 5E (2014) 02/08/13 New playtest packet to released today. [Udate: PACKAGE OUT!][

I really liked that they basically said each spell school would also generally have a tradition, but that some traditions might mix and match. Once they all get filled all out it'll keep you from having that neglected school that doesn't have any interesting hooks, and it opens the door for...

Draogn's Eye View 7/31: Transmedia Experience

So now it looks like we're not going to get core rule books with art that reflects a variety of the worlds? I understand the need for a consistent vision, and I'm not even upset if all the art in the MM is from a Forgotten Realms base design. I would however, like to see a variety of art...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playtest Fatigue?

I've generally run one or two game sessions when a packet comes out, but I'm not the main DM for any of the groups I play in. After the novelty wears off and people want to get back to a regular campaign we switch back to 4e or Pathfinder. Once the rules stop changing and more character...
