    D&D 5E (2014) Art in 5e...?

Looking at the PHB image it looks even more like my first impressions: that she's not levitating, but rather jumping away from the giant's sword strike. The bent right leg even makes sense since she's trying to get her extremities as far from a sharp edge as possible. The extra space on the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Art in 5e...?

I can actually see both sides. I think the fact that there are folks on both sides, but both sides also agree "this is a good step forward," speaks more than blanket proclamations of the other side being wrong do.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

I'd be willing to put money on a character builder or quick character rules that they're going to start hyping the %#*^ out of if I were a betting man... "Never played D&D? Make a character for free right now. Join a game tomorrow and see what you've been missing out on"

    D&D 5E (2014) Traits, Flaws, and Bonds L&L May 5th

Do they though? Most non-Catholic Christians I know in the states might refer to a "preacher" or even "reverend" from time to time, but most have some connotation that priest refers specifically to Catholics or non-Christian religions. Except for the Episcopals, they're the protestant...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

They also said the downtime mechanics aren't exactly one unified mechanic for everything, but would be built according to what you wanted to accomplish For the most part I think it would be as simple as "it takes this much time and ___ GP, etc, to accomplish this task." There's no reason...

    Dragonlance Dragonlance Lives

Yeah. I think it works pretty well. The only disadvantage I can see now is that it's harder to give those ranks or prestige classes as story awards if the timing doesn't fit with when you're hitting a level with an ability increase/feat.

Seems like feats would be a great way to implement that. Subclass would be Knight of the Crown, and then you build feats whose prerequisite is the previous rank.

D&D 5E (2014) Discrepancy in Spell Saving Throws in Playtest Rules?

Magic is different. Except that some spells do require an attack roll. For the most part attack spells that cover an area rely on saving throws, as they should, but cantrips count as a spell and an attack that requires a roll to hit, no saving throw. Melf's Acid Arrow also requires an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 3/17 /14

How more rewarding is it to have a game go like this: DM: You see a pack of jackalweres Player: Are they conducting a demonic ceremony? I read something about that in their MM entry. Is Graz'zt in this campaign? I haven't heard any demons mentioned by name yet. DM: [Shrugs] I guess we'll just...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 03/14/2014

I'm curious about the effect, if any starting with a +2 to attack rolls will affect monster math, if any. Not as if the numbers were all that balanced in the public playtest anyway. Will we still be waiting 6 levels to get +3 proficiency? Will DCs, target ACs, or hit points go up a little bit?

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

Is this for mechanical balance reasons? Or is it more to prevent archetypes being mixed and if they must be then the mixed multiclass should be sufficiently sub-par, so as to make a person think long and hard if she wants to sacrifice flexibility for effectiveness?

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

Given that we have At-Will multiclassing, what do you suggest the fix is? Other than prevent front-loading? Especially if you rush through the apprentice levels or they cost relatively less xp than later levels, then it could make even more sense. If the cost of early levels is lower, then a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

That's more of a question for the narrative than game balance. I'm not totally against narrative restrictions, but I think they're more useful according to the campaign and the table you're playing with. I don't think they're useful for mechanical balancing, which I think is the most...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

All that 1st level spell casting ability in 5e is only 2 spells a day, or 3 with arcane recovery. Other than that the only valuable thing you're really getting is two save proficiencies. [edit] Ok, and cantrips. But those aren't really any better than ranged weapons

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

Yeah, I already conceded full plate might be too much. Also, if he's using a shield he's prevented from having a free hand to add his proficiency bonus with an implement. Of course, that's assuming he's holding a weapon in one hand and a shield in the other. I guess there's some argument for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

Heavy armor and action surging for spells are maybe too much, I'd agree, but getting all weapons isn't that great if you're only staying at two levels of fighter. At the most you get a d12 +str damage (2d12 with action surge), but after 5 levels of wizard you're casting 2d8 dmg at will with...

D&D 5E (2014) What Would You Give Up For A Cheaper PHB?

I wouldn't get rid of the color art entirely. I think there's something to said for enticing new players in with it. And you don't want people having the impression they're skimping on the budget. But, save the color for the bigger pieces and chapter beginnings. For the smaller art mixed in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

All I really needed for a fighter/mage concept is the one level. At least the concept I had in mind, which was more heavy on the sword-wielding mage than a fighter who knew a spell or two. I wanted a guy who could wade into melee with a sword while still throwing out some damage spells, or use...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing discussion

I'm a fighter 1/mage 6 right now. Enchantment tradition, of course. Is anyone taking the evoker or illusionist traditions at all, multiclassing aside? Even though I stuck with medium armor for flavor reasons I don't think I got hit by a melee attack once in a 4+ hour session Saturday. Though a...
