Since you have that nifty reach available, I would highly recommend giving yourself at least a 14 Dex and taking Combat Reflexes, along with Power Attack and Cleave.

Magic of Faerun is one of the best 3E products Wizards has put out, in my opinion. The FRCS also has some great rules stuff for other campaigns, but its $40 price tag makes it best for those who will actually run or play there.

We have evaluated the Eldritch Master for the two campaigns that I'm part of (one I run, one I play). My group all feels that while it has some really cool abilities, its completely balanced by the fact that it seriously loses out on higher spell levels.

The death of weapon speeds and spellcasting segments is one of the many beautiful things about 3E, says I.

Something I wish WotC would do in the future is to include this kind of table in any book that has new monsters. I'm sure many of the creatures are balanced for use with the summon monster spells, and it would greatly add to the spells' utility and flavor if spellcasters could get more out of...

Note that Monte didn't write any of the vile spells in Dragon #300. That was James Jacobs. The 'vile' monster cultist PrCs were by Eric Cagle. Neither of these articles are necessarily indicative of what is in BoVD. Monte did write the article about the four different types of campaigns...

I would also like to congratulate myself on my 100th post. I feel all grown up now... :)

My personal favorite is Magic of Faerun. Even if you don't play in the realms (and I don't) there is a trove of great spells, PrCs, feats, magic items, as well as rules for Mage Duels, and cool new stuff for druids and bards, too. BoEM 1 & 2 are great, too.

Monte, didn't you propose a Book of Exalted Deeds to WotC at the same time you proposed Book of Vile Darkness? Maybe that was just a rumor I heard, but regardless, its too bad that they didn't decide to do it. And I'm definitely looking forward to the Book of Hallowed Might.

Mostly, I thought that the 'vile content' in Dragon 300 was fine. I do have two complaints about it, however. 1) The advisory on the sealed section looked like a joke, with the grey splash of blood across it and the nice graphics. They should have used the same format that the music industry...

I wish they spent more time explaining what the differences would look like. As it is, I generally like my maps to be spread out on the table during play, and easily traded out for others. Hence, I voted folder.

I borrowed the book from a friend of mine, and was pretty disappointed. The races section basically reprints subraces available in most other books, and includes an alternate hobgoblin and half-hobgoblin. Both of which were disappointing, as I felt they should have gone with the standard MM...

I run it as listed, but so far no PC has taken anyone except their cohort with them adventuring. The other followers are so week as to be killed off instantly during some of the dastardly combats I prepare for the party.
