    D&D 4E Positive Aspects of 4E

Yes, as you can imagine, we never tell anyone that they must play a certain class. That's why we had a game that reached epic lvls with no cleric or wizard. We had a paladin, 2 fighters, a druid, and a rogue. The possibility of making parties like this more viable has me very excited.

    D&D 4E Positive Aspects of 4E

No probs. I knew ahead of time that some of these would probably have people scratching their heads. A multi-cleric and multi-wiz party was well off, but almost any combination that didn't have a cleric & and a wiz/sorcerer was in a world of hurt. I remember one time we tried to run a game with...

    D&D 4E Idea for Necromancer in 4e

I like the idea of a white necromancer that focuses on healing, attacks vs undead, and undead protection. Throw in a smattering of speaking with undead and some divination (communing with spirits) and you're good to go. Give a flesh golem pet to white necromancers, and an undead pet to black...

    D&D 4E Positive Aspects of 4E

This purpose of this thread is so that posters can express the things they like about 4e. So much debate goes back and forth, and minor dislikes are harped so heavily, that I think many people have forgotten what it is that they even like in 4e. - Players can be meaningful heroes at lvl 1 -...

Design & Development: Magic Item Levels

Surely we knew months ago when we had +5 wands that we would still have +5 swords. I'm happy with this as long as we don't have the items that simply add + to something.

Design & Development: Magic Item Levels

What I'm hoping for are some interesting magic items for lvls 1-3. Most of what a player can attain at those lvls are masterwork or alchemical. I remember that The Red Hand of Doom has some neat little magic items that were appropriate to lvl 1-3. I find it silly that all magic items prior to...

Design & Development: Magic Item Levels

This is very interesting. A +2 flaming longsword is 10th lvl, but a +2 lightning sword is 9th. Apparently they have different effects than the boring +1d6 dmg. Could it be that even our run of the mill magic items are going to start having intersting abilities that are more distict than simple...

Design & Development: Magic Item Levels

Actually it shouldn't be hard at all... because within the game world there is no reason that magic items would have 'fixed' prices anyways. The prices are for meta-game purposes. I seriously doubt that in a points of light world there will be a local magic shop that carries a +2 flaming...

    COLLABERATIVE Dragonborn City: Drak'Thul

It might be a better idea to have sexual maturity at normal human rates. There have been numerous discussions on the problems it caused with elves and Wiz-o-Coast even ret-coned it later to a human maturation rate.

I believe that some of the earlier Hungarian stuff suggested that the sorcerer would be closer to what a wild mage is... barely able to contain or control the primal forces of magic within them. I believe the example was given of sending out a wave of fire, but still having risidual flames...

    More about wizards by kunadam

In the Hungarian info released prior, it was stated that summoning and summoning tables were completely out for the time being. That means for clerics, druids, and wizards. Conjurers were cool and all, but from a DM point of view... WOOT!!! :D

I love all of this. Even the wizard impliments is something that I've wanted for a long time. Unfortunately my fave wizard to play is an enchanter, but I think scaling back enchantment to make elbow room for the psion is a good design decision and will encourage more psionics play in the future...

Dragonborn - will you ban them?

In almost every game I've ever played, someone has asked if they could play a half dragon or a dragonman of some sort. Even with new players who had no idea what races they could play. Making dragonborn a core race makes perfect sense to me.

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

You have a good point. Maybe you will only be able to smite 1/encounter, but have the option of using 6 different smites for that 1 smite attempt?

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

I personally like the idea of limiting what smite the player has. One paladin will be different from the next if they are forced to pick and chose between balanced abilities. I'm sure if such is the case, a paladin would have the option of taking a new smite or reverting to an old one ever few...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

Most combat only lasts 5-6 rounds. If a paladin has 10 per-encounter smiting abilities then they would smite every time they attack, including AoO's. That would be plain silly. But an upgraded smite that superceded the previous would be excellent. It would force the player to continue to make...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

Wizards has stated that high level characters will be just as simple to make and to play as low lvl chars. My guess is that lower lvl smites will be overwritten by the higher smite and take their place. Thus the players has to decide which smiting ability they like best. Hard choices in...

    Just a couple of questions

Also valid. This is probably what I will do with Dragonborn since my players' heads will explode if I start renaming the core races.

    Just a couple of questions

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20070917a It was in the Wizard impliments Design & Development article. It's very clear that the orders are directly tied to game mechanics. Nowhere does it state that you must be part of a certain order to use a certain ability, but from what I can...
