    Elven proficiencies

It's just that most NPCs will have one of those items, and not three or four of each, so it does not matter a whole lot. It is a 'reduce bookkeeping for DM' trick, not a 'character options for players trick'. IMO, there is no reason that any non-drow elf would have different starting...

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

If you have a fireball kill 20 creatures instead of damaging a few, then those creatures would have been dead anyway, by any of a thousand horrible fates. 3rd level is the level where they hid all of the overpowered spells. After the 'refresh' for 3E, 4th and 5th level must have had a huge...

Duck Season, Wabbit Season, Actually its...

Since it is a spell from an item, it should use the minimum caster level for a spell of that level. Otherwise you could stuff 10-die fireballs in it (for a noble salamander, that would be pretty cool). -Fletch!

Need Help with Cost of Magic Ring

It's the tone, not the words. Hey, it's your keyboard - write what you will. So are there limits to non-epic items? What are they? You have decried my theories, but presented none in return. Forgive my tone, but it is time to "put up or shut up", for lack of a better turn of phrase. :)...

    Identify

As soon as the wonder of magic is gone, your game loses something. We as a gaming group are working to bring it back, despite how it has become a commodity in first the Forgotten Realms (which we are trying to forget) and then 3E as a whole. I was expecting a caustic reply, and I have to...

    BRACERS of Epic Health???

I'll just chime in with my usual "as long as everybody knows this at the start of the campaign and agrees, its OK". Seems an unnecessary restriction to me, though. -Fletch!

    Shaman Prestige Class ?

I have a friend that simply tacked bard song, bardic knowledge, and some low level druid abilities onto the adept class, and it is working fine (especially since the player is very familiar with bard abilities). Simple, easy, and no additional supplements. -Fletch!

Telekenisis, am I reading this wrong?

No, you are affecting an attended item with a spell. So whether you hurl the opponent or his weapon, it is a Will save either way. TK is not used as an actual 'attack' to disarm. Basically the same as shatter, but with a higher save & range. -Fletch!

    Pure speed!

Run Dash (Song & Silence) Fleet of Foot (Song & Silence) Those are all of the running & speed type feats in the core and splatbooks. From the tone of your description, the character idea just sounded like an excuse to do the whole rogue spring attack thing again. While the whole speed thing...

    A Hit Every Round

Yeah, to keep up on the time, I tend to open a whole bunch of thread windows, then reply to each in order. The first one might wait several minutes before getting touched. I wrote more, though. :p -Fletch!

    I'm annoyed at archers.

Then archers are completely useless. Either you need AA, or you need GMW. If there are no magic arrows, the DR is 'invulnerability to archers'. I would not allow GMW to pass a +10 total modifier on the arrows, though some do. Look at it this way. If your players don't go through 50 arrows...

    I'm annoyed at archers.

I did the archer thing, and there is nothing more frightening than improved grab plus reach. If you friends get grabbed, you might hit them with your shots. If you get it, well, suffice it to say that it gets really ugly. The other option is to set adventures in catacombs or other places...

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

No we just disagree... You obviously have not done the math. Do you realize that even a half-charged wand of slow is more than the entire equipment value for a 6th level NPC. To even be a viable piece of equipment, the NPC would have to be 13th-15th level. Now, if you sprinkle every group...

    Identify

Just from the descriptions, one could tell that you preferred the second method. Look at it this way: a DM with notes, etc. is more consistent. Once you learn something, you can be certain that it will remain the same. In a free-for-all, the DM is usually too scatterbrained to even keep...

    A Hit Every Round

Until somebody sunders your wand. It's not that the combo is bad, it's just that any reasonably intelligent opponent would figure out that the wand is important. If it's a choice between a non-True Strike AoO and getting whacked every round, I'd take the AoO. Vermin, animals, constructs and...

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

Had an idea for shutting down haste: antimagic. Somehow permanently hold several beholders and have them bathe the intended battlefield in the emanation of their primary eye. Beats slow or dispel any day. Toss in a horde (like hundreds) of grappling, disarming, tripping insane kobolds, and...

Do you think Haste is too powerful as is?

Unless the goal of the adventure is to shut down some Gauntlet-esque monster generator or uncontrolled gate to the lower planes, the inhabitants of a dungeon will also have fixed resources and numbers. The mass haste cheese is unnecessary except in large battles. One monster surrounded by 4-6...

    Sturmsgård, an experimental campaign

This campaign sounds sweet. I am tiring of 3E campaigns that more resemble Powerpuff Girls than the epic fantasy literature of the 60's & 70's. Here are a couple ideas that I've worked out for an upcoming campaign, using standard info from non-3E sources (*) and my own deranged mind (**): *...

    When does multiclassing become excessive?

For my next campaign (frequent posters an lurkers are probably getting tired of hearing this from me), I am going to require multiclassing for spellcasting classes, and only a feat (prerequisite: spellcaster 9th+) will get you out of it. That is one of the primary ways I will be enforcing a...

Spring attack and haste: stop me from getting cheesy

Depends how your DM views the FAQ: truth, aid, or junk. I used ot view it as 'truth', but am slipping toward 'aid'. -Fletch!
