    D&D 4E Are powers samey?

I agree 100% with the sections I quoted from Hussar. Why is that so difficult for you to understand and accept? I am also a 100% firm believer that 4E's presentation (in many ways) was it's biggest flaw and not it's gameplay. I also 100% believe that had the game been presented in a more...

    D&D 4E Are powers samey?

I was agreeing 100% that the OP describes the problem with many people disliking 4e. That's all.

You and I.never see eye to eye on this. It's OK.

D&D 5E (2014) Intiative Score (DMG variant rule)

I'm probably not being clear enough- Once I remove/change everything I dislike about 5E, the game doesn't offer anything that say C&C didn't back in 2004, other than A/D. I don't find anything more mechanically compelling than that about it's design. Bounded Accuracy maybe- But the numbers...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone else feel like the action economy and the way actions work in general in 5e both just suck?

Welcome to the internet. I've been here since before Russ bought(?) the site from Eric. You better get used to it. 95% of the conversation here is about XYZ sucks about Edition ABC. Likewise with the majority of other message boards.

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone else feel like the action economy and the way actions work in general in 5e both just suck?

There are plenty of great games out there, life's too short to get angry about game rules. I may "argue" til the wee hours of the morning here about game rules and my preferences, but I don't get angry or lose sleep over a make believe game of faeries and dragons. 5E is not my main game or my...

D&D 5E (2014) Intiative Score (DMG variant rule)

I agree this is easy to implement, but does have big effects on the grand scheme of things in how powerful or not the PC's abilities and monsters are. Ultimately it's far easier for me to run a different game than change another completely to suit my needs. This is the issue with 3.X and a...

D&D 5E (2014) Intiative Score (DMG variant rule)

Well as I stated, it comes with a lot of issues because of how the game is written- I have to start looking at/rewriting a bunch of abilities to avoid the "until your next turn" issues. So I tend to just play other systems as my D&D fix, and go mostly BTB for 5E and 4E when I run those (despite...

D&D 5E (2014) Have you actually read the 5e DMG?

For 5E? I've read mostly the optional rules/variants sections in the very back and utilize the magic item descriptions as needed,. The rest of it is not terribly good or all that useful for me. It's not as bad as the 3E DMG, but..... The 4E DMG, I read cover to cover. 2E and 1E too, though...

D&D 5E (2014) Intiative Score (DMG variant rule)

Think of it like an action movie- There are no rounds- Unlearn what you have learned ;) Switch cameras a lot whenever it would add tension- jump around from PC to PC a lot and leave "cliffhanger" moments when switching- whatever ups the "OH $&#@" factor :D

OD&D Edition Experience: Did/Do You Play OD&D? How Was/Is It?

Started with it. Still love it. Love playing it. Warts and all. AFAIC, In most respects, Gary, Dave, et al got it completely right the first time.

D&D 5E (2014) Intiative Score (DMG variant rule)

I don't know the HM system. My issue is the entire 3.X/PF/4/5E system Cyclic initiative Round length of 6 seconds Nearly everything tied to "until your next turn" Hard codified categories-Actions, bonus actions, reactions, move, etc. If you deviate from this by utilizing a round by round...

D&D 5E (2014) Intiative Score (DMG variant rule)

Not in 5E I have done it. But I have run a bunch of sessions in 3.0 using the starter set which uses the same simplified initiative score. I find cyclic initiative boring as hell, and this variant even worse. IME it also keeps players less engaged because they know X amount of people have to go...

What game mechanics when introduced were absolutely hated?

NAI*- I get the fictional element. I do. But I find it "clunky" even as a huge 4E and 13Th Age fan. I think the better designs were the powers and exploits that still granted half damage on a miss- like a failed save in 5E or pre 4E games. Those are sizeable and a bit easier to explain in the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e the Least-Challenging Edition of D&D?

In the PF2 Oblivion Oath stream game- The Cleric has this divine power where she can "guilt" opponents- It's hysterical watching Sara Marie (the player) trying to guilt a Ghoul and make it re-think it's actions. IIRC she also tried to use it on a Redcap after he had murdered a half dozen NPCs...
