Five (or so) favorite RPG books for lore/reading pleasure

In no particular order... 1. Living Greyhawk Gazetteer 2. Midnight 3.5 Core rulebook/setting (and most of the setting sourcebooks/gazs) 3. Dark Heresy 4. I suspect some of the Symbaroum sourcebooks (NOT the core book), if I got around to actually reading them

RPG Print News – Cubicle 7, Phillip Reed Games, and More

The art does look incredible. The summaries provided for the first two volumes, however, seem incredibly dull. Hopefully detailed reviews of the actual content will change my mind. EDIT: Did a little more digging. Before the Stroke of Midnight looks like it might hold my interest.

What If Sauron Won? Check Out This Trailer For The MIDNIGHT RPG!

It's a good idea. And some of those 'darker things' are hinted at in the 3.5E sourcebooks, as well.

What If Sauron Won? Check Out This Trailer For The MIDNIGHT RPG!

Sorry you didn't enjoy your purchases. It really sucks when that happens. That said, I guess we'll just disagree on what's "superfluous prose" and what's "useful content." I hope the 5E version generally follows the model set out in the 3.5E products. IMO, the flavour and atmosphere are what...

What If Sauron Won? Check Out This Trailer For The MIDNIGHT RPG!

None of the game stores I usually order from in Canada have it listed for pre-order yet, either, which is unusual. The only place I've seen offering pre-orders is the Asmodee online store (I haven't searched other European or US sites): Midnight - Legacy of Darkness | Asmodee

What If Sauron Won? Check Out This Trailer For The MIDNIGHT RPG!

It requires the 5E PHB. Secrets of Midnight

What If Sauron Won? Check Out This Trailer For The MIDNIGHT RPG!

I wonder if Edge will make it possible for fans to create and sell their own content for Midnight, à la DMs Guild?

Thanks for sharing. I love videos like this.

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

And I would argue that many people buy/collect RPGs because of an emotional attachment to a setting or IP (including nostalgia), and not necessarily because of novel mechanics. I own a lot of RPGs that I unfortunately probably never will play. And judging from other posts I've read on ENWorld...

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

I don't disagree with you. But I also would have assumed that the same reasoning applied to...

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

I burned out on The Walking Dead some time ago, but I'm surprised that hasn't been made into an officially licensed RPG yet.

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

I wouldn't be surprised if Free League snatched up the license for this before the release of the next film(s).

What IP would you like to see as an RPG?

Game of Thrones already has two different RPGs. Something set in the world of Mad Max would be pretty cool. That said, I'm sure that can be accommodated in some of the existing post-apocalyptic rpgs.

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manuals - Too Many, Not Enough?

I'm with Paul on this one. There are times when less is more. I much prefer the current 5E single Monster Manual, followed by occasional books like VGtM and MToF that provide much more depth to the creatures in the game, than endless reams of uninspired stat blocks for increasingly strange and...

Spelljammer Amazon.ca has Spelljammer 5e for 40% off

In Canada, I find that many (though certainly not all) independent game stores have better prices than Amazon.ca for D&D, other RPGs, and most board games. That Spelljammer set would be an exception, not the rule. I very rarely purchase RPG products via Amazon, but I spend +/- $1,000 every year...

    D&D 5E (2014) OAR #7

I have no emotional connection to the original (never knew it existed until recently, even though I've been playing D&D since the mid-80s), so it won't be high priority for me... I might get it, though, if I see it at a good price and my finances permit it. EDIT: But I too would have preferred...

Podcast #195: Best Board Games for Dungeons & Dragons Fans

That's fair enough. I don't mind JiME, but you're right, it's not an amazing game. I just thought the generally theme would apply to D&D players as much as Imperial Assault does... but only realized in hindsight that IA isn't in the top 5 games in the Dicebreakers list that Morrus was referring...

Sorry, my bad. I didn't click on the Dicebreakers link, I commented based on the 16 games listed beneath the link.

Podcast #195: Best Board Games for Dungeons & Dragons Fans

I'm kind of surprised The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth, and Mage Knight didn't make the board game list.
