    Kobold Wizard

Min/max advice: Go for sorcerer instead of wizard. Take Draconic Rite of Passage, and then at sixth level undergo the Greater Draconic Rite of Passage. It's like a free level. Also, start off as venerable, since as a dragon (since you're a dragonwrought kobold) you don't have any physical...

Why are we trying to make 1st level PCs tougher?

I guess if they survive they'll become tougher-than-rock jerky. :D

    Fake damage from illusions?

Holograms that eventually fool more senses. You still use illusions to make a wall of fire that feels hot (even though it doesn't deal damage). You can mimic area attack spells too - you just have to miss.

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

Meh, the XP rates are the same between editions. Assuming you played by the rules, at least.

    Would this be evil?

And, since the paladin isn't going to be swayed in his actions, regardless of what the villain threatens, and it would be common knowledge by then, the villain isn't going to have any reason to do the whole "Try to kill me and I destroy this orphanage!" routine. IIRC, I saw a version of this...

RAISE DEAD: get rid of it and make D&D better

Or, even better, if he dies he stays dead, but still manages to succeed at his goal. Which takes a bit of the sting out of it. Rather than a wounded Sir Galahad dying at the third orc coming after the rest of the party, he staggers back to his feet and holds them off long enough for everyone...

    Would this be evil?

Incidentally, by saying that a character is not responsible for the actions of others, almost all of the common paladin moral dilemmas (catch-22s) disappear.

Theories regaurding the change in rules of D&D.

IIRC, there's a specific note about that in the AD&D book. In essence, Gygax admits it's unrealistic, but it's an abstraction for the cleric engaging in devotions, or the wizard studying arcane lore, or the thief casing a mark. AFB, so don't have direct citation

Talk to me about item crafting

I disagree with this. Brew potion is far too limited. CWI allows one-use items as well, through the crafting of magical traps. And the low-level magical traps are awesome. Why should your camp be unprotected? The normal selection of wondrous items is great as well. EDIT: Magic traps are...
