Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

Ruins of Sky Keep- part 2 In the narrow corridor, all arrows hit the Halforc. Fortunately, three of them got stuck in his armor and only one found a way through the chainshirt. Ignoring the pain for now, he came down upon the Ratmen like a force of nature. While his friends caught up, he kept...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

Ruins of Sky Keep- part 1 Their plan to defeat the ratmen was as simple and effective. Trepat and Ben positioned themselves on the wall, and hiding from the ratmen's sight, they had their opponents' heads and torsos in plain view. When they were ready, Niklas and Torn went to the right side of...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

:o Thanks for your praise, guys. As I had said before, sometimes keeping up with my storyhour can be quite a hassle. It is a very rewarding experience, as well, but sometimes there is just too little time inbetween all the other things I gotta do to take care of the story hour as well. After...

Killer DM or Puppy Love DM

I think I am leaning towards Puppy Love. PC deaths used to be much more common in my campaigns, but I had been going soft recently. After all, I do enjoy characters with a full fledged background and history more than having some new character every other session.

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

Glad you are still enjoying it. The setting is really great. It offers a vastness of storytelling opportunities without being overwhelming. That the sourcebooks and adventures are a fun read helps a lot as well, of course.

And, incidentally, he got his first level in the Incarnate Prestige Class at the end of that session, so that he was able to turn into his first past-life form in the next session... :)

Why is the Scarred Lands Setting so popular?

King Virduk is lawful evil, but his rule brought an era of pride and prosperity to his country. He ultimately turned a small country into a full-fledged empire under Calastian rule. So, for the Calastians, he is nothing less than a hero, and he is charming, as well. Why should they care that...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

The witch is back- part 4 of 4 "I'll scout ahead", Torn volunteered, and barely making a sound, he proceeded into the field of granite blocks and wall-fragments ahead. Then, just as he was about to enter the remnants of a corridor and turn out of his companions' view, four Ratmen with arrows...

Why is the Scarred Lands Setting so popular?

Not quite. Each subspecie of Slitheren resembles one Titan. So, while some of the Slitheren do use magic (like the Red Witches, who got infused by the essence of Mormo the Witch Quenn), others don't. There is one kind of Stalkers, who are hunters and assassins like Hrinruuk, "their" Titan, and...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

Well, as they scaled the mountain, I really skipped the random encounters there. After all, there was more than enough combat awaiting them once they were up in the ruins. All in all, I don't really like random encounters. I think, so far in my storyhour, there hadn't been even one random...

Why is the Scarred Lands Setting so popular?

There already a lot of good points regarding the Scarred Lands in this thread, but I would like to add a thing or two nonetheless. I had been DMing a campaign in the scarred lands since last spring, and I find it very enjoyable. One of the things I like best is that the whole campaign is...

[Struggle and Strife] Heroes and Villains

Squirrel Nutkin (from "The Squirrel and the scorched ones"). I used the Squirrel-stats from one of the Dragon magazines (thanks to Squirrel Nutkin for pointing it out to me!), and added the "Herald of Denev" template. Squirrel Nutkin, Herald of Denev, the Earth Mother CR --; Diminutive...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

The witch is back- part 3 of 4 The mountain loomed before them. It's peak was covered in clouds, and at the uppermost edge that they could see, there was snow. There were stories among the villagers that the keep lay just over where the snow started, but everything they could tell them was...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

The witch is back- part 2 The winds got stronger, hitting the ship like a gigantic invisible fist, and all on board got whipped by the driving rain. Niklas shouted:" It's the stormhag!", and even though his voice was barely audible over the noise of the raging elements, all his friends looked...

    Rate the Races

I don't like dwarves. I think that the real-world-equivalent of a dwarf is a fifty year old biker with a beard who likes working on his motorcycle, drinking beer and listening to Fantasy Metal (like Menowar). Of the races listed here, I would pick Half-Orc as favorite. They are a bunch of...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

The witch is back part 1 By the time they had returned to the Hornswythe, the wind from the south had turned into an outright storm, just like the Taurosphinx had promised. As they reached the riverside of Barel, they saw that the skiprock was still there. Captain Yengly and his crewmen were...

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

Eve of the Taurosphinx part 4 of 4 Suddenly, he felt a slap to his face, and heard Torn's voice:" Wake up, wake up, and stop screaming!" Trepat looked around, and there he was, in the middle of the camp, and all his friends were still alive. Except for Torn, all of them seemed to have been...

    Scarred Lands: Serpent Amphora Cycle

Thanks! Right now, I am posting a new update, as well, so there is now a third part of "Serpent in the Fold".

Struggle and Strife- A scarred lands storyhour

Eve of the Taurosphinx, part 3 of 4 Torn shouted out:" Don't listen to him, he is trying to frame us!". But the guards were taking hold of them, and their leader said:" That may be, but for now we have to ask you to come along to the gatetower with us. We will check whether the merchant's...

Story Hour Authors! A few questions...

    1. How many sessions deep are you into your story? (meaning- how many single game sessions have you written up for your SH so far?) Seventeen actual sessions 2. Everyone seems to agree that a successful story hour can only come about as a result of passion on the writer's part for the story...
