    D&D 5E (2014) What's a wizard to do?

Ignoring versatility, this isn't my experience at all. The warlock is dreadfully short rest beholden, and so far that's been a crippling weakness, so they're better at at-wills but not at actual spells. The sorcerer has better spike potential on one target but generally has fewer spell slots...

    D&D 5E (2014) Blade Ward cantrip

Do Sorcerers get it? They could Quicken a spell and also blade ward :) But yes, it's a good example of an awful spell which probably largely exists to define how good a defensive cantrip is allowed to be.

    D&D 5E (2014) Flanking

In trade for an action, it's totally easy to get. For example, if you're flanking with an ally, that ally can use their action to "Help" you get advantage. Or if you have the True Strike cantrip you can use an action to get advantage on your next attack. Trading an action is a _huge_ cost.

Come and Get It and Warrior's Urge: Please help me implement a change to both of these powers

Edit: Sorry, you're probably replying to the OP, not my post. If you are replying to me, read below. Otherwise, carry on :) So marking and CA until the end of the encounter is useless? Its utility is significantly increased, but its usefulness for forcing AE is significantly decreased. It _is_...

Come and Get It and Warrior's Urge: Please help me implement a change to both of these powers

Pull is appropriate for forced movement, not optional movement, so is not appropriate in this instance (in the same way that a warlord grants a shift). The charm effect isn't on the movement, it's on _failing_ to take the movement. It could alternatively be fear based, but there is a mental...

    D&D 5E (2014) Flanking

You could add "Flanking" as a feat potentially. Trivial advantage for just standing in the right place in a system where walking circles around someone doesn't provoke isn't something I'd just tack onto the system for free.

Come and Get It and Warrior's Urge: Please help me implement a change to both of these powers

How about this? Standard Action Close burst 3 Target: Each enemy you can see in the burst Effect: Each target chooses to either immediately shift adjacent to the fighter, or to be marked by the fighter and grant combat advantage to the fighter, both until the end of the encounter as a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hidden Rules D&d 5th

Just remember, there's nothing preventing the rogue from hiding somewhere else. They get to attack, hide, _and_ move somewhere else. Only a lazy rogue hides behind the same tree over and over, making it easy to corner them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hidden Rules D&d 5th

Rogues with Cunning Action rock, yep. Note that no one else can pull off that trick, though. Yay for Rogues not sucking.

    Attacks invalidated by interrupts

I'd happily agree that the system overemphasizes immediates that invalidate attacks (OAs and interrupts with forced movement being the big one, but also things like wizard's escape etc)... but yeah, they invalidate attacks. You don't fail at the miss stage, you fail at the target stage. Power is...

Come and Get It and Warrior's Urge: Please help me implement a change to both of these powers

You can just remove the power, done. It really does work. There are plenty of other options. You could also move the power over to any of the other defenders, say "Maaaagic", and it'll also pass muster.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is this power gamey?

Instead of trying to invent reasons it shouldn't work, the real answer is "No, half-orc isn't power gamey with druid", with the added GM advice of "No, seriously, just say Yes, unless there's a really good reason not to, and because it'd be less fun isn't a good reason" Now, depending on level...

D&D 5E (2014) Heavy Armour Master, how does a front liner survive without it?

Some feats are too strong at 1st level; almost like they designed the game for feats to only show up starting at 4th level. It's fine after that. Healer is a bit sadder, since it's also exceptional at low level but quickly becomes almost wasted due to lack of scaling.

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Starts at First Level

Random Idea: When a new character joins the group (for whatever reason), they start X levels behind the group. Each session, they gain a level, until they catch up. For me, X over like 3 would probably be a bit much, but I could see a benefit for easing someone in to a group dynamic, but after...

Learn about D&D organized play options

I was wondering if all this activity in Phlan and Moonsea would cause Tyranthraxus to reappear. Not quite how I'd imagined, though.

D&D 5E (2014) Everyone Starts at First Level

Weirdly, I think there are two ideas stuck in this thread, and I approve of one and disapprove of the other. 1) Everyone should start at a common level; so if a character dies permanently, or if someone wants to change characters, they have to restart at that low level. This is pretty campaign...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many short rests?

Immersion is not at all one of the things any version of D&D gives me, unfortunately. Way too many mechanics, very few of which are actually logical from a realism standpoint and often not even a genre standpoint. That said, I'd shy away from "X ability every Y encounters". I was more tempted...

D&D 5E (2014) My powergamer players wants to be a bard.

Bards are fairly benign. The biggest thing is they can use a few spells from other spell lists, so he might pick up Eldritch Blast from Warlock, a healing Aura from paladin, 5th level spells from paladin and ranger before they get them, etc. No big deal as far as I can tell, but if there are...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogue and Eldritch Blast - sneak attack possible?

Just for clarity, eldritch blast doesn't add Charisma to damage (you need another warlock level to do that) and sneak attack is only once, so it would be a total of 4d10+10d6 damage, also using a less effective stat (Charisma instead of Dexterity) to resolve. Which is really not that big a deal...

    Murder in Baldur's Gate (spoilers!)

Similar problem here. They were jazzed and excited to look into the Bhaalspawn problem, decided within a couple missions that they didn't care about the local politics, then actively disliked the city after a couple more missions. They beat up a wererat who surrendered, agreeing to leave the...
