    D&D 5E (2014) Totally underwhelmed by 5e bladesinger, am I missing something?

Oh ok, I see what you're saying. I think the high AC is a really strong feature for a full caster but... I think proponents are largely kidding themselves about the melee potential. But is it fun to play? Heck yeah! Spellcasting swashbuckler, sign me up!

    D&D 5E (2014) Totally underwhelmed by 5e bladesinger, am I missing something?

lol, I can only assume you're kidding OP. Bladesinger gives up School abilities sure, ... but is also a full arcane caster with mega AC.

    D&D 5E (2014) Need an outsider's perspective here.

Remember that PCs basically see evil NPCs as treasure pinatas and the definition of "evil" is usually in proportion to how much they want the gear. So if the NPC is say, a witch - it's pretty easy to assign them with the evil label which in turn makes it ok to "liberate" their stuff. This...

Barbarian Path (I don't have a name yet)

Erm... is this for a superheroic campaign? Because for example, with the speed ability, it changes from 360ft per round at epic to 6,700ft per round (approx) at suicidal. At that speed, wouldn't the bbn burst into flames?

D&D 5E (2014) I'm the DM and a player is trying to abuse the Immovable Rod. Advice?

The rods can't do the thing he wants them to do. The rods aren't hammers, and they aren't meant to be used as restraints, so reverse that. It's an innovative idea but it's basically just a cheap way to stunlock the monster. If you want to offer him a more appropriate alternative for a monk, I...

D&D 5E (2014) So my Dm wants to nerf my Vengence paladin against all but chosen foes?!

I think the intention of vengeance paladin is that they are generally vengeful rather than specifically vengeful, even though flavor-wise it sounds like he/she has a particular score to settle. "That'll be 1sp for the ale sir." "That's outrageous! I swear vengeance against you and all like...

Your players need to check their human privilege! ;-)

    D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorming about Interparty Conflict

As long as it's still fun I guess. I imagine in situations like this it's common for clerics to ask their deities for guidance. What do the gods have to say? What do they intend for you to do in the face of this crazy paladin?

    D&D 5E (2014) Brainstorming about Interparty Conflict

Yeah, I would have your gnome leave the party. Then make a chaotic evil character and show them what true evil is! Also, where's the bloody DM in this story? Is he/she just sitting back and enjoying all this intraparty conflict? Cos this doesn't sound that fun!

    New Sorcerer Archetype: Instinctual

It's a pretty kickass ability but I guess it only applies to spells, doesn't help your allies much and it doesn't protect you from spells that aren't targeted at you. So fair enough. And I guess on the whole I'd still rather have luck bend.

    New Sorcerer Archetype: Instinctual

Nah. A class that can negate enemy spells is bad enough. A class that can negate enemy spells, then use their spells to power your metamagic... yikes. Put it this way - if the DM rolled out monster that did that it would be novel the first time the creature used it. After that it would feel...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is he evil?

A "good old bar fight" with weapons? Like, not bottle or chairs, but battleaxes and greatswords? It really depends if they started the fight or whether they were just defending themselves. And if they started it, whether they had the intention of butchering innocent people (because really, who...

    D&D 5E (2014) Chromatic Dragonborn origin?

In ancient lore, Dragonborn were created by the mystics of the WotC marketing department when the original idea of "anime cat-girl" race was shot down.

    D&D 5E (2014) What am I missing?

Isn't this just part of the simplification in 5e that saw rogues being able to sneak attack constructs and undead? I see this is a positive myself. In 3e if you had a rogue (or a monk for that matter) in the party, their fun went down a lot if you fought constructs or undead.

D&D 5E (2014) UA Ranger Actual Play Report

I agree for tough pet classes in general. The PC basically gets two sets of actions. On the other hand, it's not too dissimilar to a Conjure spell so maybe its ok.

    Creating a 5e Slayer

Interesting. I don't know if the dex bonus to dmg is a brilliantly elegant mechanic or total cheese factory. :) It kind of opens up the possibility of different dmg combos like str/int or dex/wis, which might be cool?

    Creating a 5e Slayer

Yeah. I never really understood what made a "Slayer" more deadlyerer than a normal fighter. It starts getting into obviously OP territory like saying "every time you miss, you hit instead" or "every hit is a critical hit instead" or "every critical hit deals 4x more damage".

D&D 5E (2014) Do you know a creatures location if they are in heavy concealment but not actively hiding and other location questions

I'm not crazy about it either. I can understand this if you knew there was an invisible creature in the vicinity but if you didn't know this, why would you jump to the conclusion there was definitely an invisible creature there and that they were in that exact space? As opposed to a natural...

Is This Homebrew Magic Item OP?

No, thats fine. I'm considering giving the party a one-handed sword that works like a wand with 5 charges. It has no magic bonus but you can expend a charge as part of the attack action to gain an additional attack with the weapon. And you can expend up to 2 charges. Recharges 1d4+1 charges per...
