Skill modifiers: how good are you?

The Giant's diplomacy rules are great, although it is kinda OT. Since most people in the world are 1st level, and therefore have at most 4 ranks in a skill, it can be assumed that 4 ranks indicates at least a moderate level of proficiency. d20 Modern even states that 0 ranks can, in fact, still...

Mounted 2 weapon VS. Lance (Cavalier)

At high levels, you could try using the Leadership feat to get some form of cohort mount - dragons are one excellent option. I forget if Cavaliers get some special ability allowing them to make a full attack on a charge, but if not, you're definitely better off using a lance, since you'll only...

Rule expert help with monkey grip

Firstly, monkey grip doesn't allow him to wield a greataxe one-handed. It lets him wield a Large battleaxe one-handed, which is essentially the same thing, but it means that (for instance) he can't take the greataxe off the Orc chieftain and use it one-handed, since that's a Medium greataxe and...

    PrC - The Loyal Messenger

Maybe it should be a supernatural ability; that's a good point... even so, it's basically a really good Run action for a single round (compare, for instance, to the cheetah whatever feat out of Complete Divine - it lets you move ten times your speed as a charge action!), so IMO it isn't broken...

Traipsing Across Khorvaire - High Adventure in Eberron (OOC) [Closed]

That's awesome, Creamsteak. The idea of us meeting after being turned down by another group of adventurers is cool (and could probably give Starman an adventure hook at some point, if he so desired). I'll be able to join in pretty much any time, so whenever Creamsteak and Ferrix can be ready is...

    my house rules

What exactly are your modified races? Can you tell us what you've changed? One idea I've pondered for class skills is having it work somewhat like weapon groups (from UA) - classes get a certain number of "skill groups" as class skills, and each skill group contains several related skills...

    PrC - The Loyal Messenger

So, see, I got this nifty character idea of playing a messenger, and then I started thinking about how to make a PrC about it, because I realized there were lots of abilities which would be cool for a messenger, but which would be very difficult to obtain. So I came up with this. It's not...

    Freaking awesome.

Targets: One creature/level, no two of which can be more then 30ft. apart.

Well, for one thing it actually allows a slightly larger area. Consider three targets, each 30 feet from the others (so they form the vertices of an equilateral triangle). A 15-foot radius burst could not get all of them, because they're more than 15 feet from the center point of the triangle...

    Two-Weapon Defense

Animated shields still count as if the character were using them, including ASF and any penalties for using a shield (for instance, the loss of all monk abilities). The TWD tree doesn't suffer these limitations. Also, animated shields cost gold. TWD is free.

Traipsing Across Khorvaire - High Adventure in Eberron (OOC) [Closed]

Ferrix, maybe you realized this already, but you have to have a free hand to use Deflect Arrows, and since a spear is a two-handed weapon, you won't be able to. Of course, you could still use the feat fighting unarmed (a monk? unarmed? bah!) or when you don't have your weapon out yet, but I...

Compensating for Inability to Create Magic Items

Well, some spellcasters choose to never make items at all anyways, and I would say that these casters should not get any additional benefit from being unable to do so. I would say simply allow Wizards to take some other feats instead of item creation feats for their bonus feats at 5/10/15/20.

    Practiced Spellcaster Breaks D20

While it is aesthetically pleasing to have feats that don't refer to character level, I don't see how it's integral to the d20 system. Practiced Spellcaster fills a very needed gap in the multiclass caster; namely, making it competitive against opponents with SR.

    Simplifying D&D - variant humans?

I hope you're not removing the feat system entirely, right? Because it sure seems like that would gut D&D right there; a LOT of things are accounted for by feats... But it sounds like you're just reducing interdependence, so nevermind, things should be fine. My idea is to allow humans to...

    Two-Weapon Defense

By the time you get to Improved/Greater Two Weapon Defense, you actually get a greater benefit out of Fighting Defensively than you do with Combat Expertise (especially if you have Tumble). Consider: with Combat Expertise, you take -4 to hit and get +4 to AC. With 5 ranks in Tumble and ITWD, you...

    [Recruiting] The Forgotten Forge

Please put me down as an alternate. I'm thinking right now of a half-orc druid (although that may change). Because, hey, you can never get too much of the goodness that is Eberron.

What is the drawback for the UA domain wizard?

I say that the "designed to replace specialist wizards" explanation is meaningless. Why would any wizard NOT specialize under these rules? This is why, IMC, I have a house rule: "UA class variants are allowed... except the Domain Wizard."

    Power Level and Classes

Yet another way to give the PC's additional power is to introduce action points. It gives a nice "cinematic" feel to things, because it makes it difficult for the PC's to screw up on important tasks. I find that I'm usually a fairly generous DM... I don't make any across-the-board increases to...

Holy... Bobacus, you are a great man. Could you kindly draw this character? Telinor Dreamwhisper Male Human Abjurer Telinor is 5'9" tall, and twenty years old, having recently finished his magical schooling. He has green eyes, and brown hair which never quite sits neatly. Because of a...
