D&D 5E (2014) In Defense of the Beastmaster

I plan on taking a page as it were from 3E: Animal types in that edition had 'good' Fort and Refl saves. So, I will allow the 5E animal companion to have the Master's proficiency in Con and Dex saves.

D&D 5E (2014) The Divine Domain of 'Magic'

Looks intriguing. Enhanced Magic and Blessed Arcane Strike may need a bit of tweaking. I need to talk to the player in question and find out what he really wants in the character, identity wise...

D&D 5E (2014) The Divine Domain of 'Magic'

Apologies, it all made sense in my head O.o I was asking about the Magic Domain as a progression instead of multiclassing. If the Magic Domain was a strong enough magical element for my player to be single class cleric, that might be more what he's looking for.

D&D 5E (2014) The Divine Domain of 'Magic'

Has anyone created (or how would you do it) the Divine Domain of Magic (e.g. for a cleric of Azuth: Patron of Magic, Lord of Spells)? I have a player who wants to play a cleric/wizard, but has concerns about the limitations of multiclassing. We both understand that the levels of each class...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tips/links for DM ramping up on 5E?

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage

No, Disengage counters a portion of Polearm Master. A Readied Action counters Disengage. One or two of those and that pesky rogue will move on to other, easier targets...

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage

The only thing Disengage does is prevent movement related OAs. Since the only time you provoke OA is when you leave reach, it doesn't happen nearly the same amount of time as in earlier editions. And speaking of which, any rogue worth his salt had max ranks in the Tumble skill, and was thus...

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage

Yep, those pesky rogues with their fancy Cunning Action {Disengage}.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e question: dual hand crossbows

"RAW, I'd like for you to meet a couple of guys, RAI, and D. M. Fiat. Man, you're gonna love 'em. When they get to the party, it's a whole of fun, I'm telling ya."

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e question: dual hand crossbows

Pretty much my point. I understand what TDarien is saying by RAW. Although I find the notion of the Crossbow Expert feat allowing [fire - load - fire] in a round to be sillier than [fire left & fire right]... Anyway, if I have a player who wants his fighter with Two-Weapon Fighting style...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e question: dual hand crossbows

While I understand what you're saying, the Thrown property is hardly irrelevant, as it specifically allows you to make a ranged attack with each hand.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e question: dual hand crossbows

It also applies to thrown weapons, thus opening the door for other ranged attacks with appropriate requisite feats...

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage

I've seen some use as the old Spring Attack feat: - start 15' away from bad guy - move in - attack - move 15' away without provoking - rinse, repeat - profit

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage

From the rule book: "If you take the Disengage action, your movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks for the rest of the turn." [emphasis mine]

D&D 5E (2014) Ran Defiance in Phlan Tonight

I allow a Medicine check of [DC 20] to mirror the effect of the downed player rolling a natural 20 (i.e. they are revived at 1hp). a) it rewards the character who is skilled in medicine, and the player who takes time out during battle to help a downed ally b) it gets the player of that downed...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Delay" in 5e

I allow my players to use their Action via a specified trigger (e.g. when the bugbear comes through the door, I hit him). I also allow my players to alter their initiative via Delay (e.g. I want to go after the barbarian gets out of the hallway)... and vice versa for the bad guys! I have had...

D&D 5E (2014) Those of you who have actually PLAYED 5e...

Set ground rules about terminology from earlier editions right up front. Trust me, this will avoid confusion on down the road, and limit the bad assumptions made about certain rules. For instance: - there is no 5ft step - there is no flanking - interacting with an object is NOT a minor...

D&D 5E (2014) Tyranny of Dragons Adventure Path in the Silver Marches

I would like to have my 5E campaign based in the Silver Marches. A) I have the sourcebook, and B) I like the fact that it's known for the various races working together, which allows my verisimilitude to not be broken when my players invariably come at me with a very diverse group of characters...
