Got pointed here by the recent Tomb of Horrors thread, and I really enjoyed the read! Can't wait to read the epic thread and read your Rogue's Gallery thread with the crunchy goodies.
I saw it once, and didn't have the $50 at the time. It was pay the month's bills, or pick up the box... since I've never seen another copy since, I wonder if I made the wrong choice. Damn my sense of personal responsibility! :)
Already been sold, unfortunately. $144 was a pretty good price, based on what they've been going for on eBay lately. (Prices are in the $150 to $200 range the past few months, it seems.)

I'll also throw Eden Studio's LIBER BESTARIUS into consideration. It's a book that never got much attention (even on its release), but has some of the most flavorful monsters I've ever seen for 3e.
I expect I'll buy the red box and the Rules Compendium, simply as a collector and someone who loves RPGs. I don't expect to start up a 4E game because of it.
Yeah, when a Magic site says they "received a tip," it's best taken with a grain of salt. But to me, it does have the ring of authenticity, given what WotC is trying to accomplish with Essentials and what makes sense as a business.

It will be interesting to see if this is corroborated at GenCon.

It may seem like hyperbole, but the breadth and quality of character options is MIND-BLOWING. It's going to take me a long time to process... and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it. :)
