Need help dealing with a melee character in a predominately ranged combat setting...

I might have to. We'll see where it goes. Love your e-comic, by the way. :)

We might work on this angle. We're using IK magic item rules, so he'll have to find a way to pay for recharging accumulators.

Need help dealing with a melee character in a predominately ranged combat setting...

It's my short hand for infra red or thermal vision. In DS, spells such as invisibility effect the visible light spectrum. Anyone with equipment that views other wavelengths (ultraviolet, infra red, etc) is uneffected by the spell.

Need help dealing with a melee character in a predominately ranged combat setting...

Thanks for the responses. Here's what I have in response from him so far: Soulmech: he doesn't want to deal with the lack of healing. Invisibility: Too easy to trump with infra vision, and he doesn't want to act like a rogue. Jet Pack: Doesn't fit his character concept (I tried to get him to...

Need help dealing with a melee character in a predominately ranged combat setting...

We're running a Dragon Star gestalted campaign. One of the players is dead set on playing a melee fighter after being warned that the campaign will be ranged combat intensive. This has gone so far as to have him remake a character, since the previous one did not work out. I'm not out to bash...

    Firefly D20?

This I don't really see. See reads minds and events, and fights very well. She did great, but her combat ability didn't overshadow anything you'd see in a japanese samurai film.

    Firefly D20?

You might want to look at OGL Wild West. It's based on the d20 modern system, and has stats for a variety of fire arms. It also has rules for non-magical healing involving infections and amputations. For those far off independant planets :). It should mix fairly seamlessly. It's open content, so...

What spells do you get tired of seeing wizard players take? Cliche's, etc.

Consider yourself lucky. I'd love to see archtypes played, if only to avoid the archtypical player CHARGE!! mentality.

    Wand in a Weapon?

Not at all. To the OP: I don't want to step on house rule toes, but you could also at Arcana Unearthed (the malhavoc press book). Item creation feats run as 'Create Spell Completion Item', 'Create Charged Item', 'Create Weapons and Armor', etc. We use them, and they've worked well.

    Options for arcane healing spells?

HoHF: Elves has a feat that allows wizards to learn healing spells as arcane spells three levels higher (cure light wounds as a fourth level, etc). Allows you to take some decent healing spells starting at 6th level. You could look into other class options and still maintain healing spells.

What Gaming Stuff Are You Getting/Giving For Christmas?

I know I'm getting the Tyranid box set for War Hammer 40,000. I've also asked for the X-crawl main book. Not sure if this counts, but I'm giving a 'Kick the Cheat' doll to a significant other (she likes the homesatr runner games). Can't afford to get gaming goodies for all the other players in...

    Wand in a Weapon?

Make it a rod (you can use those as clubs, usually)

    Is There An Omnislash Feat?

    Agreed.

    Is There An Omnislash Feat?

This may not be true. A case was brought against Palladium when they came up with their Nightspawn game (spawn, get it). The nightspawn name isn't owned, has little relation to Spawn, and fits your description of a word that can't be owned. I doubt this though, given the percentage of...

Best features in Pen and Paper VS. CRPG?

Go anywhere you can get to under your own power. Do things you can't in the computer game unless the director thought it was cool (making the wall fall on the boss shouldn't be limited to JUST the boss). Your DM can be infitely more creative in his game world *cough*torture sessions*cough*. A...

    Geeking out on Martial Arts

Yea. I saw the episode with the katana pshed through the ballistic gel chest. Not a pretty sight. I spent the better part of the commercials with throbbing headeaches (Obata was cool though). I haven't seen other episodes yet (I don't have cable). Is this normal?

What spells do you get tired of seeing wizard players take? Cliche's, etc.

Is the police officer who carries a .40 instead of a .22 just not being creative enough? Is he in-maxing, or saving his arse? Seriously though, I don't get tired of seeing them. I enjoy them every time I see them in some movie/cartoon/sci-fi episode. I enjoy seeing players use them creatively...

how to do mass/army battle quick?

An opposed knowlegde (tactics) or similar roll between leaders. Give bonuses to the group with the largest amount of combatants, say +1 for every 25 over the other. The lowest roll loses the action. Multiply how badly they lost the roll by 5. That gives you an amount in percentage that was lost...

    Geisha, the (missing) Asian Bard

Just that geisha's didn't go into combat. Those that were involved in some fight died pretty messily. There weren't examples of those that avoided blows by distraction. Even the two in Zatoichi (one male and one female seeking revenge for the death of a relative) were more like rogues in the...

    Geisha, the (missing) Asian Bard

Geisha defense bugs me a bit. I like the idea, but I can't get past historic accounts to the contrary. Once someone took a swing they weren't harder to hit. Have you looked at Rokugan's Courtier class? No spellcasting, but it seems appropriate. Lots of skills (including multiple opportunities...
