    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

If Characters are going to pick their scores they are naturally going to pick which score to make their lowest (say intelligence for the Barbarian or strength for the Rogue). There is no way to eliminate this without taking away abilities all together. No matter wheat you do some abilities...

    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

Few methods which allow for fixed rolls will result in this. Even if you use the 3d6 6 times for every stat you only have a 6% chance of rolling lower than a 12. The chance of rolling lower than an 8 is 4 in 100,000. The homebrew method I use most often is adapted from a 1e method and you...

    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

The rules cover these pretty clearly. These are all right in the PHB. Hide is an action, not a condition. Either you take the action or you don't. If you do not take the hide action you are not hidden. 1. Yes as long as you are obscured ... or have an ability that lets you hide being...

    D&D 5E (2024) Revised 6E prediction thread

There is an easy way to accomplish this in the current core rules - roll abilities and use a scheme that does not allow moving them.to different abilities. If you roll a 17 Strength you have a 17 strength, not a 17 that you can move to wisdom because you want to be a cleric. Still be a cleric...

    D&D 5E (2014) Abusing Tasha's racial proficiency swaps

According to Tasha's characters can sway weapon proficiencies for tools. As I understand it there is no limit to this. So an Elf fighter (who has martial weapons proficiency anyway) can and really should swap away all these for four different tools .... enabling said character to start the...

D&D 5E (2014) Let 'em live or die?

So I get what you are saying but at 3rd level I would not let her character live. If the party is wealthy enough and inclined enough they can take her to a city and raise dead. Otherwise let her roll up a new one and join at the party's level. Focus on the opportunity to try something...

D&D 5E (2014) gloomstalker figthing in darkness and being invisible in darkness

RAW Doomstalker - While in darkness, you are invisible to any creature that relies on darkvision to see you in that darkness. So my interpretation of this if fighting Drow or Svirfneblin or anything else that lives its life in darkness using darkvision, that they are invisible, they can't be...

    AD&D 1E U1 Secret of Saltmarsh: Thoughts?

I DMed it in the 1980s and DMed it as one of the last 1E adventures I played around 2015 or so. It is one of the best modules I ever did in 1E and I was DM for more than 40 modules. It is the best low-level module I did bar none. It will be difficult for a small group of 1st-level...

D&D 5E (2014) Correct order to read ALL of the Forgotten Realms novels?

I would forgo the books from the 1980s and 1990s if you want FR lore because the FR is a lot different now with Dragonborn and Tieflings, also the rules were a lot different and the books were at that time tied fairly closely to the rules. I would concentrate on books from 2000 onward, the...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

No it doesn't - "When you take the attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you are holding in one hand, you CAN use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon ...." It says you can use your BA for that, not that you must use your bonus action for that. So it...

    D&D 5E (2014) Anyone played a Phantom? Advice on multi-class build.

I have a low-level half-elf multiclass Rogue-twilight cleric. Curently 1/1. This is the first time I have played a Cleric in 5E at all. The character uses a heavy crossbow primarily and occasionally a whip and is primarily a Rogue. The next 4 levels will be all Rogue. Character has a S10...

    D&D 5E (2014) Heavily used skill proficiencies

I voted athletics, persuasion, perception, investigation. I think these skills are used the most in my games but others like stealth, insight, history and intimidation are right behind. I think it is easier to identify those that are not often used. They would be: animal handling, arcana...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

In most cases, I usually dump constitution with a Rogue, so I do usually try to stay out of harms way using my bonus actions to get cover, hide or otherwise make attacks on me difficult. The fighter can make another character like the wizard share his damage ... or isn't that what clerics and...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

Yes. I said that in posts above. In the statement you quoted my point was that I don't think steady aim is a huge buff for an archer Rogue or a high elf Rogue because of the opportunity cost. TWF absolutely eliminates cunning action and as such, like steady aim it is a high price to pay...

D&D 5E (2014) artificer initiate, fey touched and shadow touched vs magic initiate and spell slots

You are right, it does compared to fey touched or shadow touched. Shadow touched especially does not have a lot of good 1st-level options. Artificer initiate though has spells like absorb elements and caustic brew that will be go-to spells for a cleric or other spell user and that can be upcast.

D&D 5E (2014) artificer initiate, fey touched and shadow touched vs magic initiate and spell slots

In Tasha's artificer initiate, fey touched and shadow touched all give extra spells. They all also have a clause - "You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have." or similar This clause about using slots is not in the old magic initiate feat and it makes that feat significantly...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

My bad, I completely misread that. It is a buff in potential DPR, but it comes at a high cost for any Rogue. It uses the BA which makes cunning action useless and I would argue cunning action is nearly as big a deal for a Rogue as sneak attack, maybe a bigger deal because there are other ways...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

Agree with the rest of what you posted, but not this. Why do you need a feat? 3rd level AT can take GFB and BB both and has steady aim.

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

Where TWF wins is on flexibility. TWF does give you two opportunities to land SA and as such it lets you delay your decision on what to use your BA for. If you hit with your first you can forgo the offhand attack and disengage or do something else with your BA. Also if you already have...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are Awesome. Is it the Tasha's Effect?

Rogues are pretty awesome in combat if you take advantage of their mobility. They can't deal as much raw damage as other classes, but they are better at controling the battlefield and avoiding getting hit. Being able to disengage and dash as a BA means they will not usually be in melee if they...
