D&D General My player did the bag of holding + portable hole thing and got sucked into the Astral Plane. Where is he?

The githyanki found a bit of meat drifting and thought it'd make a good birthday present. :D

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

True. It is a fun fantasy if you do not think to closely about the effects of loss of civilization. It can also be used to deconstruct the root problems with civilizations as well.

    Aging and Gaming

I get it. I went for 10 years in that state. Of course, I had just had my first kid and moved to a new region, but I could have easily started a new online game or found local players. I did not because of inertia and, honestly, a bit of depression. I can say that I ended up being happier when...

    Aging and Gaming

What? No. The crunchy stuff is a young person thing. The older I get, the less crunch I want in my games. I do not have time to deal with that mess. I want to sit down, play, have fun, and not get mired in useless crunch.

DriveThruRPG Print-on-Demand Prices Going Up By As Much As 50% In The US

I have no clue what will happen. My US printers are USMCA compliant so they have just told us that they are not subject to the tariffs. It costs money to get compliant but Drivethrurpg may wish to consider it.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I do not think this is a city vs rural argument. I disagree about the percentage of population living in a barbaric frontier. There are still significant people living in barbaric conditions compared to what is available in much of the western world. And I fear that we are never far from a...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

This is why I think that civilization needs to reject tribalism. We need a philosophy that every human life has intrinsic value rather than just those who are part of our tribe/community. The tribal lord shows honor and gentleness to those he cares about but can be brutal and barbaric to...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

Agreed. I still prefer the human-centric version of D&D. Of course, I have not consumed any D&D fiction since the 90s. This is one of those things where I will just leave it as this is aimed at a different audience/generation.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

Agreed. This is not tied to masculinity. Anyone luddite who wants the world to return is voting for more scarcity and brutality.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

No, the entire state banned electronic devices and their only criteria was if the device could connect to WiFi. It was idiotic because the e-reader could only connect to WiFi to download or buy books. It had no phone or social media issues, which was the reason for the ban.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I should have said companies like Marvel and DC. My son loves Batman but has to get his fix through older media. Even toys are targeted to adult collectors rather than kids. It is sad.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

This is why my kids are not allowed to have smart phones but my 12 and 7 year olds do have e-ink readers. Of course, the school system just banned any device that can connect to WiFi so they cannot use them at school any longer. I told the principal that I found it ironic that the school would...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

The companies stopped making content for kids to chase older crowds. They are suffering now.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

Interesting take on the situation. I think this is partly true, or an outgrowth of the root cause. It is a more recent phenomenon though. The shift has happened over the last 40 years. My son and daughter both love to read but their parents are both English majors with one of us an academic...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

True. I would classify Katharine Kerr as S&S. Deverry is set in a very Gallic setting.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

No problem. I think I have probably read more female than male authors although it could be even.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

Wow. I never said, or implied, it in any of my statements. You are making assumptions based on your own biases. I have stated that I find it difficult to find books on shelves that I enjoy. I never assign gender or race to any of my statements. I never brought up "sad puppies." I knew nothing...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

This. I have worked in publishing for 25 years (and now I feel old) and bias has been a constant companion. People and businesses do not always make rational choices. It is not limited to the biases we see every day such as racial, gender, political. We also have institutional, implicit, and...
