D&D General A Setting with Only Small Races/Species?

Assuming we're sticking worth already-small races, and not just making everyone small: 1. You'll constantly be referencing race during roleplay, so it'll stay relevant. Players won't forget "gnomes and kolbolds are small." (note that short elves would break this, so it's important to stick to...

D&D General A Setting with Only Small Races/Species?

I haven't, but I would play in such a game. Heck, you've got me considering running such a game. I probably wouldn't remove all medium races form the setting, though. Maybe form the starting area but if the pcs travel across the sea who knows what they'll find. I would probably include giants...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rare Dragonborn

I've seen a few homebrew Turtle Dragonborn (as in, the dragon is a dragon turtle). I could probably bang out dragonborn types for all the other dragons in Fizban's in an afternoon if the mood struck me. Mostly because type doesn't impact dragonborn much. It's just a damage type in the PHB...

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

Only in math, not in social science.

D&D 5E (2014) Do things cleaned by Prestidigitation stay clean after the duration is over?

I usually rule that it cleans up to a square foot of surface, but multiple castings can clean different squares. So you could clean a bathtub, but it would take a couple minutes. Since we rarely use prestidigitation in combat, it rarely matters, You spend some time getting everyone clean.

D&D General Words which replaced "race" in fantasy games

Inclusive here means "fewer people are offended by this."

    D&D General Building better Guardinals

I think you'd still want to give them overtly "holy" features, such as a halo (though it can be distinctive, like rainbow-colored) so they don't just look like beastfolk. As for classes, some ideas: sorcerer: snakes are almost universally considered magical. You could even put a coutl at the...

D&D General Introducing a Scientific Mindset to Dungeons and Dragons

When you assume real-world science, you often create arguments about what real-world science says about things. For example, most of us have some science education, but very few of us have the same science education - so we all have different understandings of the science around speciation...

D&D General A Gnome and a Halfling have a Baby. What is it?

For reference, the official description of Whisper Gnomes reads: They get racial bonuses to stealth and perception, and a few sneaking oriented spells (silence, ghost sound, mage hand, message)

D&D General A Gnome and a Halfling have a Baby. What is it?

I'm curious what other people have thought of when they consider this possibility. I'm interested in what other people have come up with -official and personal homebrew. My current thinking is "that's where Whisper Gnome come from" but I'd love to hear other ideas.

D&D 5E (2024) To Revise or not to Revise: What to do about the other Subclasses?

Hexblade obviously needs a re-write as it's best-known thing is now an invocation anyone can take. This is a good change for warlocks overall, but obviously the Hexblade needs a look. You could go a few directions with it: you could lean in on the shadow theme harder and make a true...

D&D General Weekend Fun: What Fantasy Movie Does Your Ideal D&D Campaign Look Most Like?

While not necessarily the goal, Muppet Treasure Island probably best resembles what actually happens, and I love it.

D&D General On Early D&D and Problematic Faves: How to Grapple with the Sins of the Past

I think he shock with her is that the books are largely about inclusiveness and against prejudice - it's a core theme of the book that you shouldn't judge people by their birth but by their actions. So "unless you're trans" kinda comes out of nowhere, like an Austin Powers joke. Except it isn't...

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

I find that using potions makes the whole game more dynamic; as long as the players can't just stock up on haste potions then choosing to use one becomes an interesting choice. But if it's gonna take a whole action in a three-round combat, then it's eating either a third or half of your...

    D&D General D&D memes thread discussion…

While I agree that a potion taking a full action is the actual rule, in practice I find it just makes using potions a thing that does not happen, since they're basically never worth an action.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Sorcerer"

Draconic sorcerers now get 10+Dex+CHA for AC. Sorlockadins are gonna be even less MAD.

D&D General Should ranger get a companion as its 'signature' feature?

As per the bolded part - if we're talking about natural environments, you need very little to get that across. Because there's no real wilderness-survival minigame to work with*, any feature that leans into this fantasy is gonna feel like a ribbon anyways. The rest of the main ranger tropes...

D&D General Race Has No Mechanics. What do you play?

Under OP's hypothetical: 5. Sticky hooves a la My Little Pony is my best narrative explanation, though. Edit to add: in 5e, RAW, same as anyone else, but they need to spend a long time to do it: they climb at 1/5th speed, not 1/2, so climbing a 20' rope would require 100' of movement - at...

    D&D 5E (2014) What I Don't Like About Subclasses, and Potential Solutions.

I never said DnD was the best, nor have I stated it’s market dominance proves that it’s good.
