D&D General A Gnome and a Halfling have a Baby. What is it?

I'm curious what other people have thought of when they consider this possibility. I'm interested in what other people have come up with -official and personal homebrew.

My current thinking is "that's where Whisper Gnome come from" but I'd love to hear other ideas.

For reference, the official description of Whisper Gnomes reads:

"Whisper gnomes outwardly resemble common gnomes, but they lack the jovial nature and easy outlook on life that their more common relatives enjoy. Instead, whisper gnomes are creatures of stealth and suspicion. In profession and behavior, they range from dangerous spies to peaceful recluses. Few members of other races can match a whisper gnome's powers of stealth, and whisper gnome scouts and rangers always stalk any creatures that come within a few miles of their hidden hillside communities.

Whisper gnomes reluctantly ally themselves with common gnomes and other races when necessary. They know that they lack the physical strength and numbers to stand completely on their own."

They get racial bonuses to stealth and perception, and a few sneaking oriented spells (silence, ghost sound, mage hand, message)

Sorry, haven't seen any half-X with halfling nor gnome, don't expect them to be able to procreate unlike the breederfolk, I mean humans. But back to a more serious answer.

But since "jovial" is part of my main descriptor about halflings, the Whisper Gnome seems in the other direction. (Everyman, community-focused, and hospitality are other parts of my default views on halflings.)

I do think it would be more gnomish - of the two they are the more "magical" of the races on some arbitrary scale I made up, and half-breeds seem to go in that directions - it's half-elves, half-ogres, half-dragons, half-orcs, not half-humans, half-humans, half-humans, and half-humans.

Similar to "multiclass" characters, there are multispecies character.

Isn't magic wonderful? I guess you could attempt to call them "Hnomes." Which is about as confusing as the parental situation.

I would go with "Gnomeling" as a nickname.


Re the Halfling species, "Tallfellow" group includes ancestry from Halfling, Human, and Elf.

Even in the 5e 2014 Players Handbook, the "Stout" is officially a multispecies group, including Halfling and Dwarf "blood". Possibly the Stouts include Halfling, Dwarf, and Gnome parentage.

Re Gnome, the "Rock" Gnome seems to overlap Dwarf concepts, and perhaps is a Gnome-Dwarf multispecies.
