    D&D 5E (2014) Your best Eldritch Knight?

It's really just evocation that's a problem; it's probably the worst school for an EK to pick from.

D&D General [+] Players, what do you like about railroads?

Honestly I just define "railroading" as "when the players feel they are being arbitrarily limited" - which is indeed subjective on two levels. If the players are enjoying the game, it is not a railroad, because a railroad is a specific type of not-fun game. You might tolerate a railroad in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Your best Eldritch Knight?

Those stats seem a bit high for point buy - how are you starting with an 18 Intelligence?

D&D General [+] Players, what do you like about railroads?

I'll tolerate a railroad of that sort in a convention game or other situation where total playtime is a factor - I'd rather finish a railroad than leave a game hanging forever. Other than that, nah.

    D&D 5E (2014) Artificer Fighter subclass? [+]

Potion infusions would be a really cool addition, and not just for this subclass.

    D&D 5E (2014) Artificer Fighter subclass? [+]

In that case it might be easier to just give them infusions at the appropriate levels: Level Infusions known Infused Items* 3 4 2 7 6 3 10 8 4 15 10 5 18 12 6 * But let them put up to half of their infusions into a single weapon. And probably add some infusions to make sure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Artificer Fighter subclass? [+]

None of the subclasses are pure warriors, though. Artillerist mostly uses cantrips and has no weapon-focused features. Armored artificer, thought he best 'tank' in the game, only gets gauntlets to attack with, and cannot transfer those (significant) bonuses to any other weapon. Battlesmiths...

    D&D 5E (2014) Artificer Fighter subclass? [+]

Bump the upgrade to 15th, so it's seventh and 15 not 7th an 14th.

    D&D 5E (2014) Artificer Fighter subclass? [+]

My only edit would be to move the infusion upgrade to level 15 so you're not getting subclass features on a non-subclass level.

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's pitch fun new class ideas [+]

When I was dreaming up a "maneuvers for all warriors" variant, I used stances as the answer to concentration spells. You spend a die to enter a stance, and get a small static bonus for as long as you remain in the stance - ie Greatweapon Stance lets you reroll ones on damage dice as long as you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's pitch fun new class ideas [+]

A necro-summoner might be a better way to handle a necromancer who's focused on a specific creature that's always available, while leaving "a swarm of skeletons" as more of a control spell. But I can see them as two separate classes just as easily.

    D&D 5E (2014) (2014 5E!) What feats need that missing ASI???

Greatweapon Master Sharpshooter Crossbow Expert Polearm Master Lucky Shield Master if you re-write it to remove the silly limitations Metamagic Adept Anything else that grants a new bonus action attack option. (but not ones that expand on an existing option like two-weapon fighting)

    D&D 5E (2014) (2014 5E!) What feats need that missing ASI???

    Definitely Medium Armor Master.

    D&D 5E (2014) Let's pitch fun new class ideas [+]

I would like a "you found a magic sword" class - one where the core concept is you're just some guy/gal who has somehow bonded with a potentially powerful magical weapon (or other item) and as you gain levels you get better at using it and unlock more of the magic item's powers.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

The compromise position is "most if not all full-casters get a summoner subclass" - but I'm not sure that's any easier to manager than a summoner subclass to silo the mechanics of managing a summoned creature that's strong enough to be your 'main thing.'

D&D General What is your favorite "campaign paradigm"

That might have been clearer if you had named the game in question.

D&D General What is your favorite "campaign paradigm"

"A video game did that at least once" and "that's just like a video game" are not equivalent statements by a long shot.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Arcane is someone who, through skill alone, is able to tap into many other power sources a bit for specific effects. So they should be the most versatile, but should also have the weakest peaks. That's never really been captured.

D&D General What is the right amount of Classes for Dungeons and Dragons?

Artificers are fine Bards should roll Performance checks to cast Clerics should have 1) a set number of Gifts, some of which are X/day, other are at will, and others do other things. They also should have a robust ritual casting system to cover praying for stuff. Paladins are similar but with...

D&D General What is your favorite "campaign paradigm"

If I had to pick one, guild is the best- it's easy, it's flexible, and "make a character who would join an adventurer's guild" lets you nip a lot of problem concepts in the bud.
